Lets face it, not giving out a huge contract could be the best decision the Flyers have made in a while. This team is good enough to compete with the rest of the east as is so today shouldn't be too disappointing. |

We needed a Backup Goalie for a reasonable price. Check.
I mean, UFA day wasn't nearly as much fun as in the past. But we are still trying to get Divorced from our last UFA day hookup. Looking like we might hit Therapy and see if we can't make a go of it. |

It was easily the most depressing day of free agency since 1995 for the Flyers.
A day when all GM Ron Hextall could do was sit and watch the parade go by, knowing he didn't have enough money to join in.
Depressing why? For once in many many years, they didn't do anything rash and stupid. Whether it was the money holding them back, or Hextall's new mindset of thinking before making a move, it was a good thing. Would I have loved some of those FA's out there? Sure... at those prices? Heck no! There was only about 3 or 4 good deals on the day. The rest were horrible, and for a change, I'm glad it wasn't the Flyers giving out that money!
They NEEDED a backup goalie... and they got it. They NEEDED a backup to Stolarz.. and they got it. Moving Vinnie will just be icing on the cake, and maybe allow them to do another change or two yet... but overall, it's been a "good" FA start for the Flyers, imo. Sometimes no, or little, action is good action. |

Depressing? How about refreshing? You guys are down there grilling them about the Hextall hire last year bc of the lack of "culture change" from the organization, and how things will be more of the same.
The draft and free agency come along and there clearly is a philosophical change going on. With emphasis on developing the farm system and signing functional forward depth with B Jones instead of the Rosehills and Shelleys of the world to help the Phantom prospects.
It may not be interesting to write about. Hell you may have to roll your sleeves up and actually talk hockey . Good luck. |

Hexy's business will pick up today once he bails G out of Ottawa jail for grabbing a cop's butt repeatedly. Time to trade another captain. |

Claude got pinched for pinching and Hexy says he is aware. Time for another one on one with Ed Snider for Claude. |

maybe he thought it was a team bonding session?
looks like it was something silly, no charges just blown up because of who he is.
funny to read, but not exactly big news
