ummm....
may need to get your facts straight here...
Gorges rejected a trade to the Leafs as they were not on his list of 15 teams he would accept a trade to.
After rejecting it... the team asked him to expand his list. He added Buffalo and a few others. They THEN made the deal with Buffalo.
Regardless... you got a hell of a team player in Gorges. I, personally, think it's a huge mistake letting him go. - mlindsay
Agreed, on all accounts. These signings yesterday did show that Buffalo isn't a black hole, but, other than Moulson, these weren't guys lining up to be here. Buffalo was basically the least of all evils for Gorges, and nobody else was going to pay Gionta $4.25 million a year, or Andrej Meszaros $4 million this year. The Sabres overpaid for these guys, which is fine considering the position they were in. |

You don't think that Toronto or the Isles were willing to overpay some of these guys? They couldn't give away a bucket of money to anyone yesterday.
The Isles managed to sign Sabre outcasts yesterday. And Jack Skille. |

Given the timing of the deals, no. If they were still available today, possibly. |

I thought they really lowballed him on the bridge contract . He should have gotten 4 - 4.5 and he might not be near as tough in this negotiation . He is going to being looking for 8 to 9 now. |

So no McDavid sweepstakes run?
I'm confused - frenchgui
no no, we're still interested in that. a lot of noise about bringing in the right kind of players, and competing, but we had to sign guys to get to the floor. the sabres scored 157 goals last year, fewest in the league, 39 behind florida and vancouver. so if stewart and gionta each chip in 19, we would still be on pace for the fewest goals. we lost our best defenseman and our franchise goalie. a lot of things would have to go very right (or very wrong) for us to not finish in the bottom 5. |

There is a thing called a cap floor you know... Even after spending 20MM they are still just above it. Trade one player and they are back below it. - ImThatGuy
There is a little thing called overpay marginal talent guy. Did you even think about that? Lol Geez some people. We still have to sign Ennis guy. Could've overpaid someone like Setoguchi over Moulson. So no trading a player won't put us under the cap. Seeing that we still have Ennis to resign. Got to look into this stuff before you start spazzing out at people aight? |

Sabres let it be known they were open to taking on bad contracts for draft picks. They are just looking to make the floor, so overpaying for Gionta for his in room abilities with young developing players is money well spent.

So in your world when his play improves he`d look back and say `well... they were nice last negotiation... so I`ll take a pay cut here` |

Ya I was pretty pissed. We should have been done after the signing of Gionta IMO. Hopefully we suck donkey balls next season. We have a nice pool of youngsters but to be honest half of them won't even pan out. So getting McDavid or Eichel in next season's draft could very well make or break this rebuild IMO. And we would be looking at another rebuild 4-5 years down the road. - Jammerz04
You gotta have faith in what GMTM is doing.
I would rather win than lose just for the sake of one player.
I HATE the damn fans that want the Sabres to tank.
WTF is that bullpoop?
Some fans you guys are.
I want the Sabres to win EVERY game. Tanking is for losers.

1 year deal. whats wrong with that? he can either suck, which wont make a difference in buffalo and be done after this year or have a good season and get traded at the deadline or be resigned. |
