Loved me some Johnny Vermont, but Timmy Kerr might be the most underappreciated hockey player of the '80's and almost certainly one of the most underappreciated athlete to ever play in Philly. |

But those players have to be on two way contracts or they have to clear waivers. I didn't know if we had enough of those counting against the cap. - section32
one and two way have nothing to do with waivers. |

1. Gratton is not a flyers alum. Don't ever say that again.
2. Waiting for the pitbull gif
3. How long has hammarstrom been with Vancouver, and was it an amicable split from the flyers?
4. I've faced leclair's shot first hand. It was frightening. We're old. :-( |

Vinny for Matt Cullen. Why cant the two teams just make this deal and call it a day? |

They really need to update the nomenclature because that confuses just about everybody who doesn't spend all day on an internet message board. |

Peter Mueller seems like he may be worth the small risk. reminds me of Alexander Daigle with unmet expectations. - edmac812
Similar, in the sense of unmet expectations and that the Flyers would be buying low on a young talent, but it's hard to compare Mueller's expectations coming to Alexandre Daigle's. Daigle dominated the QMJHL and people were calling him the next Mario. |

When Legwand is preferable to Vinny, you get an idea of just how lukewarm their interest in assuming that contract was. |

Maybe. But they dont attract FAs and Cullen is 37. Vinny may be a tab overpriced but that's the price you pay when you cant otherwise bring in big UFAs.
I wonder how much of this is Poile thinking he can put us over a barrel after all the bonus money he had to front Weber. Vinny's contract should nit be this big of an issue for a team with 16 million in cap room and an inability to attract free agents. |

There's nothing we can do about it. No one is ready to replace these guys if we move them anyway. Next year we'll be in better position to deal/buy out - Just5
So what are the CBA terms for a regular buy out then? |

Chris Gratton only 39?
He should come cheaply, Homer. I figure 2yr, $750 per would get 'er done. |

I believe it's 2/3 total salary divided over 2x the years left.
i.e. VL has $18M and 4 years left.
2/3*$18M = $12M
$12M/(2*4) = $1.5M
Flyers would dedicate $1.5M of cap space to VL for the next 8 years. |

I'm pretty sure Chris Gratton collected his Flyers paychecks wearing a ski mask because that dude stole money. |

I thought if you sent down a one way contract, they had to clear waivers. Or...maybe if you waived them and they cleared, they were assigned to your AHL affiliate? |

Got it...as opposed to the amnesty compliance buyouts that are now gone and they didn't count against the cap. |

Yes. Flyers used both compliance buyouts already, date to buy a player out has passed and VL signed the deal AFTER the new CBA. Each of those reasons would prohibit a compliance buyout of VL. |

I'm not convinced John LeClair's time was up when he was forced out of the league. I think it has more to do with the entire league transitioning towards youth after such a fantastic 2003 draft. His final season wasn't very good but his second last season he had 22 goals, which doesn't exactly scream "I can't play anymore". With this said though, Lindros and LeClair were the 1/2 punch I wish we still had. LeClair in his prime was still very capable even without Lindros. |

He's probably also pissed that the Preds didn't even get a break on Weber's salary during the shortened season due to the structure of the contract. |

yes, i believe it is...but i don't recall it being a slash - as in brodeur intentionally hitting him...i think it was on a follow through of a pass or him swatting at the the puck and JL's face got in the way. |

So far nothing has happened this off-season that improves this team to being anything more than a 1st round playoff team. Until the Flyers can stop being handcuffed by the salary cap, that is all the future holds. Gonna be a long next couple of years. |

I think it also had to do with Leclair not being able to keep up with the speed of the game anymore. |
