And why are they trying so despearatly to get trade him to free up cap space. Because he no longer has an upside and last year most likely would be the most productive season we will get out of him. Bottom line it was a bad contract. - Daveflyers36
He didn't have an upside when they originally signed him. And if he's healthy, he can be more productive then he was last year. If Lecavalier plays the way he is capable of, barring injury, it's not a bad contract.

Yeah, we could have Bolland's contract instead. |

Show me the errors of my thinking. Convince me this is a good team or can be by next year. The Flyers keep making the same mistakes year after year. Every summer they have to find a way to be cap complient and are handcuffed on what they can do. When they do get a little money, they overpay for aging talent or for average players because they are afraid someone else will sign them. In 2 years Berube will gone as coach because he failed to advance this team even tho upper management is inept. It is a cycle this franchise has repeated over and over again. - Daveflyers36
I dont have to waste my time proving something to someone whose mind is 100% sure of something. Maybe MJL or someone else can swing by and take care of your opinions in those areas.
My question is why you are even here in July if you are so sure this team is headed nowhere fast? Why follow the offseason moves? Why even watch the games? Why even be a fan? If there is anything to prove here I would start asking those questions. Show a shred of optimism or find another team you can root for. |

I think you took care of the situation and gave the only answer required. Any other answer would've been a waste of time.

I think the main issue is most people can not understand what it's like to play hockey with a back injury. Whether it's low level or the highest, you look like poop and slow. The fact Vinny had moments later in the year was impressive by its self. |

Sometimes you don't see mistakes until the season starts. If Umberger doesn't play well, that might get labeled a mistake. Plus he has been given a grace period, which is only right, because he just took over the team.

I'm with you there 100%. Many will say that he was completely healthy. Didn't look like it to me. The only caveat I see towards Lecavalier bouncing back, is the back. If it's something that is going to be chronic going forward, that's an issue. If it's something that he can completely recover from, and come to camp in top shape. I expect him to be a solid player again. If he's here.

I agree with your general premise that they dig holes for themselves constantly, but Hexy's avoided the usual UFA traps thus far (knock on wood), and he hasn't traded any young cheap kids for expensive vets yet... there's at least some hope that a change of philosophy has arrived. |

People also seem to forget that in the beginning of the season, the Flyers were terrible as a team, but Vinny was truly a one man wrecking crew at times during that horrid stretch. |

He was helping to carry the team, and he had a very good 20 games or so before he got hurt. That's the Lecavalier I expect to see if he's healthy. A part of me doesn't want him traded. |

We are trying to deal him because 1) We are over the Cap 2) He doesn't fit on the team. He is a 2nd line Center but we have Schenn in that role. Vinny played last season with a fractured Vertebrae and still managed 20 goals. He is still good and if we cant move him it is likely Schenn goes to wing which is not ideal for the team. Flyers want Schenn at C because he needs to improve at his position. Schenn is not going to learn how to be a better cener playing Left Wing. |

I can see it now....
They work out a trade to Ottawa and he plays on a line with Ryan. Vinny is healthy and gets 75 points helping Ryan to a 40 goal season. Ottawa the resigns Ryan and everyones great hopes of Ryan playing wing for G are dashed because they moved Vinny. |

Or, they want to see Schenn play wing because they don't think he is gong to be a great center AND they want to see Cout get more of an offensive role. then they can bring Laughton in to play some meaningful minutes on the third line instead of a handful of minutes with the 4th. |

It's really going to be interesting to see what they do with B Schenn. There's no doubt last year they preferred him at Center. I personally think he's better suited for the Wing, but the Flyers may feel differently. Regardless, I want them to identify his position, and then leave him there. Let him break out.
