I can't see this happening Letangs contract is bad even for the Pens , why would Habs want that headache. Don't get me wrong I love him and want him to stay but I would be crazy for the Habs, we can't take any salary back , we don't have the money. It doesn't make sense and it's being reported by Ek so I definitely won't happen ... |

Letang + Malkin + Bennett for Subban + Pacioretty + Galchenyuk
Ridiculous trade offers are fun - Feds91Stammer
Substitute DD for Galchenyuk and I'd consider it. |

Anyone who thinks Letang is overpaid has no idea what contracts are going to look like for elite D-men. Jesus, the corpse of Brooks Orpik signed for 5.5mil AAV. Letang's contract is fine. |

This. The Letang deal is looking more and more like a bargain with each passing year. |

That's true. However his medical problem is a serious risk for any acquiring team to consider. I just don't ever see another team giving up significant assets for a guy that might have to retire.
I think Letang will have to be problem free for a couple of years before another club considers making a move for him. |

Perhaps, but maybe Galchenyuk+Eller+Parenteau for Letang+Sutter?

I don't think anyone ever thought Letang would refuse a trade to come to Montreal. It's more that the pieces to make a deal work for both teams aren't really there. |

Ya I agree, health issues aside, Letang's contract is completely fine. It's slightly higher than Phaneuf's right?
Having said that, dude, you can't make a point to defend a contract by comparing it to a horrible one... Orpik's contract is rediculous... IF Letang's contract was bad, comparing it to Orpik's wouldn't help your argument... |

Galchenyuk: hasn't proven anything, already a big injury. Talented, yes.
Eller: Great 3rd line guy, but really, that's his limit.
Parenteau: at best a second line guy, $4mi contract for his output sucks though
Letang: 1D, allows MTL to trade Subban (if he indeed doesn't want to stay in MTL). Proven Norris candidate, injury risk.
Sutter: more than adequate replacement at 3C but also adds some size to MTL |

If anything, I could see a Letang for Pacioretti deal straight up if Mtl has another deal in the works to trade one of their other defensemen. That would give them too much on the back end. Never should have resigned Markov for that kind of money. He's old, injury prone, and isn't all that helpful other than on the PP. Pens could use the winger and Letang could be a dynamic playmaking D if he stops having those momentary lapses of having his head up his ass. They also have a Letang clone in Pouliot once he recovers from shoulder surgery and he's on an entry level contract. Don't see this deal happening though. |

Fair enough. But in general, thats what defenseman are being paid now. Niskanen at $5.75...Nikita Nikitin @ $4.5M...So Norris nominee at $7.2 is reasonable. |

I'm not saying it's a good contract. I'm saying that's what contracts are going to look like in a season or two. Marginal players getting 5 mil. |

I could not really see this happening, unless for some reason the habs were going to lose Subban. Just seems like he would play too much the same game as subban to me

How does Sutter 6'3'' 190lbs 13G 13A add size or is an improvement on Eller 6'2' 215lbs 12G 14A?
Basically you are talking about Gally + PAP for Letang? humm not sure about it. If i'm mtl I stay away from LEtang for a year or two at least |

A) Gain Size how? That whole extra inch Sutter has while he weighs 20lbs less than Eller.. at you
B) Galchenyuk was the 3rd overall pick a couple drafts ago, hasn't really been given a chance yet, but I bet my house on the fact he will be a 30 goal man within 3 seasons and likely Montreal's first line Centre. So again, At you
C) Get Letang just to move Subban? So trade for a guy who can't skate, shoot, pass, hit, control a game, be a pest or most of all PLAY DEFENSE as good as Subban, just to what? Trade Subban? at you again.
D) Eller also has more offensive upside than Sutter, and is better in his own zone than Sutter so again at you
E) Montreal needs another scoring winger not a lesser Dman or 3rd line centre than the ones they already have so again at you
F) The only place that trade will ever happen is in your own personal copy of NHL 14 so again At you
Better? |

Eller is an RFA, so it would assume his contract asking price is more than what Sutter wants.
Otherwise, you can't just wait a year or two if there is a deal on the table now...especially *if* Subban has voiced a desire to get out of MTL since that forces things to happen now. If Subban hasn't asked to get out then you don't bother with getting Letang if you're MTL. |
