Edit: Unless it's seriously cheap, and they're taking salary back. Which I don't see why they would be other than the off chance Rutherford is still re-tooling. |

I wouldn't mind adding Letang, he's a fantastic player albeit one with a frightening medical history, it's just what we would give up.
It would have to be a D, as we already have a top-6 of Subban, Markov, Gilbert, Emelin, Weaver and Beaulieu. We're not moving Subban or Markov, PIT wouldn't want Gilbert, Emelin or Weaver, and I wouldn't trade Beaulieu+ for him. |

Yes they're gonna retain 3 mil per year and only ask for a 5th round pick.... |

I can't even imagine the scenario where this works out for the Pens unless they get someone like Pacioretty and then Montreal deals Subban for forwards.
I don't think the Pens would do it as a salary dump...well they might...but can't see Montreal doing that.
Would have to be a third team in there somewhere...wouldn't there? |

MTL needs F, while adding Letang would be great it just doesn't make sense. |

Eklund: Canadiens and Penguins in Talks Regarding Letang - Eklund
1) Pens would not get fair value. He has 8 years left on his contract and he's missed 89 games in the last three years.
2) He's exactly the opposite of the kind of defenseman the Habs need.
3) He makes too much money. |

Depends on the cost! - andrest
Exactly. No deal can be assessed without knowing the cost (in this case for Habs fans) or the return (in this case Pens fans).
Seems an unlikely match though. Letang's cap hit is $7.25. So unless Markov or Emelin would be leaving, and both have NTC at the moment (both become LNTC in a season or two), the cap $ wouldn't work.
Letang and Scott Harrington or Brian Dumoulin for Markov and Emelin might interest Marc Bergevin but I don't see why Pitts would be interested unless Letang's medical condition is worse than known; in which case he wouldn't pass a physical. |

I only want Pacioretty, and I think the Pens FO would only want Pacioretty. Think about it. We have a problem with the top 6 right now and we're close to the cap. Paches has one of the best contracts in hockey right now and would be killer on Crosby's wing.
Trading for Tanger would help Montreal too because they can then trade Subban for a kings' ransom while having one of the best offensive defensemen in the league locked up long term for an ok contract.
What could be the other options? Subban? Too expensive for the Pens and I just don't see why the Pens would look to improve a position of strength when we have other glaring problems and our pipeline is so strong and cheap. Price? The idea that Montreal would trade a top 3 goalie for Letang and MAF is laughable.
The question then becomes, do the Habs have the forward strength to make Pacioretty expendable? That I don't think so. |
