Maatta and Pouliot basically had the same surgery at the same time. The timeframe would put them back into the lineup about a month or so into the season. As for Niskanen and Orpik, they both got overpaid. Niskanen not as much. He cashed in on a career year and I say good for him. Orpik however, as much as I love his style of play, was a huge overpayment. He's in his 30's and with his style of play, won't hold up like he did in his prime. Especially for 5 more years! I love the Letang deal if it were about a million/yr less, but what are you gonna do? I still don't get the Markov contract though. He's a 35 yr old defenseman who is slowing down and I dimensional. This trade scenario would make a lot more sense if they would have let him walk like they should have. Also, with Subban set to get a contract close to the Toews/Kane contracts, MTL will need to save that space. This rumor sure did get people talking though, which is exactly what it was intended to do! Good job Eklund!

i know, was worth a good laugh reading the headline.

and im happy to keep him. with the real coaching he needs, his 7.5 million will be a bargain.

Chris Letang is a great asset and no teams should trade away these assets, ever. So we'll let these rumors slide.

Ok, Gallagher isn't that good. I would trade him for letang 100 percent. He wil be a good 2nd/3rd line winger super pest which IMO every team needs. But he's not going to be a 1st/2nd line type player.

that kid is a poison for goalie and playoff type player with the heart big like the bell center... no way marc bergevin will trade him

Stop working up a sweat, Montreal isn't even remotely interested in Letang. You guys get to keep him, so be happy.
- elcabong

I WILL be happy if he stays a Pen , wait till next year when he plays to his potential, u know that is sky high. I'm not worried about his health, have u seen his workout routine ? He has all the skill and speed he needs to excell, IF he can stay healthy(and I don't mean his heart, that was a fluke) he will be worth every penny and more.

this has to be "sources" putting X + Y together and coming up with Z, although Mike was a Letang fan and Tanger came into his own under his system - can't see this happening, tho ... I used to hate Letang's contract, but by next summer even it won't be that bad if things continue on as they have ... pretty sure, if it would happen, PIT would use this chip to strengthen their front line, not their back line - they are pretty happy with the way the young D have developed in W-B

so habs fans want Letang, but don't wanna part with Subban, Pacioretty,Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Beaulieu, Tinordi, or pretty much anyone of value.

Eller and a 2nd is not gonna get it done

you really created an account today just to post that crap??!! I pity you...

Now now...just the opinion of a pens fan that thinks letang is worth more than those players, and pointing out the delusion of Habs fans.
You can keep those guys, and keep watching games with 91 already dialed in case one of them gets hit hard...

hahaha no way that pacioretty gonna be dealt for a defenceman...pitsburgh fan are funny ! i also read gallagher ?? hahaha in your dream maybe !!!
- Zo0by

you realize Gallagher is a 3rd liner right? 19 goals and 41 points were career highs.
Letang was a Norris trophy finalist 2 seasons ago. You expect Letang + + for Gallagher haha thats typical of a habs fan. I'm sure some combination of Plekanec/Eller/Desharnais + a 2nd will get it done

How could they afford Letang?

And BTW, Letang is so overpaid. Not even a #1 guy at all.

No. Dion is better.

If Letang was on Toronto, we'd hear more about him being the most overpaid D-Man in the NHL.

Taylor Hall. 30 GM's would not trade Hall for Letang.

You realize he's only played 2 season right?

If I were Montreal, I wouldn't trade Gallagher + Pacioretty for Letang. Too much potential to give up and does nothing to address the requirements for the Habs.

Detroit has no better dman than Letang... as does Winnipeg, Minnesota, (you listed Chicago twice), Tampa, Toronto, Calgary, Arizona.

please. it's one thing not to like him, it's a whole other thing to be completely blinded by your hate.

Actually I do like him....better than a PPg in the lock out season was truly remarkable.....and for my money heading into a playoff series, yes, I would rather Kronwall, Suter, Keith,Hedman,Big Buff, Dion, Giordano or OEL....don't care if you agree.

forgot about Suter, I'll give you that one. I never said he would be on Chicago, just pointing out you listed them twice.

Kronwall? Maybe 3-4 years ago.

Letang has yet to have an NHL coach actually coach him. He will thrive when he is coached and given the opportunities he needs to succeed.

7.5 Million will seem like a bargain soon.
