Chiasson is a very, very creative player. Got better as the year went on at using his body to drive play. Defensive game is a work in progress, but he's actually not terrible in his own end. Again, still learning how to use his body both offensively and defensively. I could see him doing very, very well on a line with Zibanejad and Hoffman.
Just an observation from a Stars fan. |

my "dream lines" for next year would be, realizing that line 1 and 2 are interchangable:
macarthur - turris - stone
chiasson - zibby - ryan
michalek - legwand - lazar
hoffman - smith - condra/greening/neil - sensarmy_11
My dream lineup is one that ensures that Bobby Ryan wants to re-sign here, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean separating him from the one player that he's shown considerable chemistry with, who is also poised for what should be a career season. Also, they didn't just pay Michalek $4.0M to play on the 3rd line for 3 years, so if nothing else I'd say that's highly unrealistic... at least in terms of what we're likely going to see coming out of training camp.
Personally, I'm not even convinced that Stone will start the year in the NHL - because I can't see Chiasson, Zibanejad, and Lazar not making the roster, and Turris, Ryan, Michalek, Legwand, MacArthur, Greening, Smith, Neil, and Condra are all on one-way contracts. That's 12 forwards right there, which means it comes down to Hoffman, Stone, and maybe Pageau... with Hoffman as the oldest by 3 years, and the only one eligible to be lost on waivers. And quite frankly, if it's only a 3rd/4th line depth roster spot that's open out of training camp, I think Stone is the one of those 3 players that I'd want to see in that role the least.

I'd rather have Michalek play on the 3rd line than not see Stone in the lineup. Did you watch this kid play down the stretch? He's insanely good both with the puck and without it. Some commenters already posted this, but Stone is vicious when he attacks the puck. I can definitely see him put up 40-50 points next season on the 2nd line. These are my lineups
MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Michalek-Legwand-Stone
Lazar-Zibanejad-Chiasson
Greening-Smith-Hoffman |

Why is Puemple always left out of the discussion? He scored 30 goals in his first AHL season, 23 in the second half of the season. Outstanding progression. If he comes to camp and scores goals, he will be in the fight for a spot.
Don't know how Ottawa starts this year without doing a deal that clears up the logjam between the guys deserving a shot of serious minutes (Hoffman, Stone, Chiasson, Lazar, Puemple) in contrast to other guys who may be topped out in regard to their career profiles (Neil, Greening, Condra). |

you answered your own question in your 2nd para. unless ottawa moves out AT LEAST 2 forwards (and doesn't get any back in return), puempel's chances of making this team lie somewhere in the slim to none range. barring a miraculous camp, where he's the best player there, i can't see him not starting (and playing most of the season) in the AHL |

Nice effort, but fail. "over you"? You're pretending ottawa was trying to get him to make your point, which is some weak trolling - Hard T
The "you"was in reference to Yost... not Ottawa genius... great reading comprehension! (That's probably too complex for you... so how about... you no read things good) |

I remember a post-game interview with Turris shortly after he started playing with Stone, and he was just gushing about how good he was and how easy it is to play with him. This lineup has a lot of flexibility I think, but I think I'd start with this and see what happens:
MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Michalek-Legwand-Stone
Hoffman-Zibanejad-Chiasson
Greening-Smith-Condra
Top 3 lines each have two good possession players. I'd allocate near equal time to each line. Greening and Smith should be much better without Neil, and be an effective 4th line if utilized properly. To me, this has 'win' written all over it. Just hoping Methot and/or Cowen can step up to first pairing quality this year. Not holding my breath. |

they have no choice but to make at least 1 move. don't they currently have 8 d-men (7 1-way contracts plus ceci), plus about 437 forwards with a chance to make the team. lol
if there isn't a trade, i can't imagine that boro isn't put on waivers and sent back down.
and maybe (PRAY) that greening is bought out (although we all know that will never happen) |

I'm thinking the same as well that a trade will be made before the season starts. However, I also don't think waivers are completely out of the question either. You have to let the best players play, especially in our situation. |

That's the lineup I'd go with. I think Greening and Neil are interchangeable as they are both terrible in their own way. My main concern with the whole lineup is it's lack of firepower. If I am the opposing team, there is only one line I really need to focus on. |

With all your posts with CORSI galore... are you miffed that pipsqueak got the gig in Toronto over you?
Maybe Ottawa needs a stats man? - mlindsay
Nice trolling attempt, but that 'pipsqueak' was GM of the Greyhounds in the OHL... so ya, he's got some experience running a team. And knowing Ottawa's budget, they probably will reach out to Travis and offer him free popcorn to join the org (that, or pay him in Canadian Tire money - which will be super useful for someone living in the US). |

Piss off with the cynicism toward Cowen. The guy was injured and rushed back to play in the post-season and did not have time to recover at all. You have no idea what his conditioning is like for this off-season. It's insane that he has a bad season and that he's suddenly beyond redemption in everyone's eyes. The kid's 23, take it easy.
Not sure what the dislike toward Methot is about, either. I suppose with Spezza gone, we need to raise our standards about the other players in order to drive them out of town, too. Quit being a bunch of Negative Nancy's -- especially where it isn't justified -- and try to look forward to the coming season. |

peoples criticism of cowen is more than justified.
if he had simply lost a step, or played a little less physical as a result of his injury, that would be completely understandable.
cowen's issues last year were the seemingly endless stream of mental mistakes, that seemed to actually get worse as the year went on. sorry, but you can't blame his injury for him not knowing where he should be in the defensive zone.
the kid is paid a lot of money to play defense, so if he isn't able to do it (which he showed continuously last season) then the criticism is justified.
not really sure what you're referring to when you talk about dislike towards methot.....maybe i missed something. i personally think he's a bit out of his league playing on the top pair, and is more suited to be a 3/4 guy, but speaking for myself, he's still a good player. |
