Great blog Colin,

It definitely does seem like the franchise has finally broken the chains of mediocrity - at least as far as management. It will be very interesting to see how the players respond to all these changes (dare I say culture changes...) in the past few months once they hit the ice. I think for a lot of guys it was apparent that the organization was lacking motivation as a whole and fans directed most of the blame towards the on-ice product (which was pretty abysmal too). Watch for guys like Phaneuf and Kadri to have BIG seasons, maybe even Riemer if he sticks around. I would bet that there will be an observable improvement towards overall defense - not just from the blue line but from forwards too. I don't think it's a bad thing that they brought NHL experienced guys in instead of AHLers, as long as its no longer a question of seniority and guys who are competing will get an opportunity they may not have been awarded in prior seasons.

I think Colin just writes Leafs blogs when he's ready for another one from Mike in Buffalo. CD's work goes up...poof...an MA blog appears within the hour.

PS - really nice work.

Ya looks like you guys are right. Still on the smaller side, I guess.

Edit: As of June 27th 2014, Maple Leafs site has him at 5'9 170

According to draft day folks, 5'11 170lbs....oy vey.

Honestly, I've read anywhere from 168-185 and 5'9-5'11

Lets call him 175 and 5'10

I don't believe that Kadri is committed to the Leafs and I don't believe the Leafs are committed to Kadri. I think he turns into Toronto's equivalent of Gagner in Edmonton. Time will tell though.

Kadri got a decent point value last year.. When you take into consideration he played with lupul and Raymond mostly... And lupul was hurt half of the year.. So it was kulimun sometimes. Give him some people to play with! No he will not be the next gagne .. Because he can actually hit.. He will be a true #2 center

he has another 2 months till oct, another 10-15 pounds is not out of the question!

10-15 lbs in 2 months? yes i would call that out of the question.. even for someone his age and size 10 lbs over an entire off-season is a big gain. 2lbs of muscle/month is impressive

Do we also remember what happened when Kadri allegedly put on 10+ pounds over the summer and returned...basically unable to skate? Not always a great idea for a young player, either.

I like the direction this off season has gone as well. The guys they have signed for the bottom six will help the end of season collapses. It looks like the leafs will be a more competitive team for sure. I do also like how the players have stood behind there coach this off season. They keep getting asked about the relationship with Carlyle and they do stand behind him, That in itself is encouraging. He pushes them to be there best and he doesn't care who likes him or not. Its what a professional coach should be! These guys are pro's and need to be pushed to excel. Good blog Colin! I'm happy to finally read something positive about the off season moves instead of Nonis and Carlyle are still here so its been a fail!
