first!

edit too slow.

Is nonny done? I hope we dont have to push Polak or Robidas to the left side because of too many RH shots and Dion's preference to play right D

There must be at least 1 or 2 more moves coming up.

Good write up Colin.

IMO Nylander could be the best player in this draft down the road.

Also Gardiner's deal will be a JVR like steal in a year or two.

I like what the Leafs have done since Shanny shoved Nonis in a closet and took away all his power...

I had my doubts all along that Bolland was gonna stay. If he wanted to stay here, he coulda accepted the 4.2 or 4.9 or whatever it was to be our 3rd line center. The guy chased the big bucks in Florida, I wish he woulda spared everyone the "I wanna retire a maple leafs" BS

I thought nylander wad 5 11 and kadri 6?

I do like the direction the leafs are moving in. I hope one of ross or biggs AND gauthier can make an impact over the next couple years as well though I see most have already written off the pair.

I believe that Dave Morrison was quoted as saying that Nylander is now more like 5'11, 183lbs

Ya looks like you guys are right. Still on the smaller side, I guess.

Edit: As of June 27th 2014, Maple Leafs site has him at 5'9 170

According to draft day folks, 5'11 170lbs....oy vey.

Just my thoughts but I think they've been going in a pretty good direction since they got Kessel, Phaneuf and JVR.......if you look at the list of their last six first rounders, Rielly and Kadri and Nylander are half of what they picked and those were all 3 top ten picks. So, I'm not sure Nylander signals a new direction, since half of their picks were skill, and the big guys they took in late draft positions (excepting Schenn who was flipped for skill 2 years ago).

I think lost in the discussion so far this summer is that the Leafs have really done nothing but accentuate a really good (underrated) core group of players. The Gardiner singing is absolutely fantastic. The team still needs a top pairing D to go with Phaneuf and a Top line C, to really contend, but they now have a high probability of developing both those things internally, as Bozak can slide nicely to 3 once Nylander and Kadri are ready to be a beautiful 1-2 combo, and Reilly, Gardiner Phaneuf might give them 3 #1s.

Future looks great in TO, in my opinion.

Always enjoy your blogs Colin, btw.

Either get Nylander on the "Penner" diet or get Kessel to share some of his cookies to bulk Willie up.

I don't believe that Kadri is committed to the Leafs and I don't believe the Leafs are committed to Kadri. I think he turns into Toronto's equivalent of Gagner in Edmonton. Time will tell though.

Good Blog D.

I agree it seems like they have changed their strategy this year and hopefully it works out cause the old one sure as hell wasn't.

All depends on what the future holds.
I believe the Leafs are happy with what they have in Kadri.
However, I also believe that if a TRUE 1C became available and Kadri is the required piece going back, I believe the Leafs will take that deal.

LA parted with Simmonds and Schenn when they were younger to bolster a deep lineup for a run and it worked.
