I disagree. The entire framework of the Pens defensive game broke down last season. That's why they struggled. Orpik's game isn't built on foot speed and never was. His demise is being greatly exaggerated. While his contract is an overpayment for a stay at home defensive defenseman, and other comparable players can likely be had for less. He is still a solid defender and penalty killer. And he also brings intangibles to the team.

And I'm sure you watched him with an unbiased viewpoint over 60 times last season like I did.

I watched him enough to still know he can play. And I can assume Washington came to the same conclusion. Just because a fan watched a player any amount of game with an unbiased viewpoint doesn't mean they came to the correct conclusion.

I guess the entire Pittsburgh fanbase, who all loved him up until 2 years ago, are all delusional and are just hate-filled fans and you're right on your island.

When a team underacheives, a fanbase never picks a scapegoat.
And it's usually a player such as the type of defenseman that Orpik is. Who tend to struggle when the team as a whole struggles. I think Orpik's decline is exaggerrated. That is no more proof then saying anyone watched them for 60 games.
