AMac is the new Carle only not as good.
- PLindbergh31

I disagree. Carle may have an edge offensively... but A-Mac is the better defender.

Umberger has looked pretty damn shot the last while, so hopefully he bounces back. Columbus was willing to buy him out by all reports.
- flyer_nutter

They were willing to buy out his contract, not his play. Which means that Columbus views Hartnell as an upgrade.

Wasn't he a healthy scratch or on the fourth line at some points? I honestly cant remember too well but seem to think I heard this somewhere.

I liked RJ in his time with the Flyers, and it would be nice for him to have a few good years here yet.

Matt Carle was never a shutdown defender, but was able to use his speed and stick effectively both on the rush and on the cycle. He was never physical, but he was relatively strong. AMac has bee criticized by giving the blue line way too easily while backing off and is very easily muscled off the puck by bigger forecheckers.

Nor am I. But he was better than AMac on both sides of the puck.

He put up good numbers playing on the 3rd line. He was scratched in Game 7 of the playoffs and a few regular season games as a "healthy" scratch due to injuries. I.e. he could have played through them if it was life and death, but the team opted not play him since they were affecting his game.

Edit: If he stays relatively healthy, he's a potential 15-20 goal scorer who can move up and down the lineup and can play center or wing.

Surprised he answered this:
"The plan for the defense is? I mean at this point the orange traffic cones that align the parking lot show more promise."

That's fine. What is is about AMac's defensive game that is better than Carle's, without citing specific instances?

ok, yeah, we're on the same page. I prefer Carle on both sides of the puck.

Yeah, he got this "injury-prone" label attached to him somehow and I'm not sure why. Nothing chronic. He has 4 months to heal before camp, so he should be fine.

You are the GM of an MLB team today. For first base, you have to take either Ryan Howard or Albert Pujols. Who do you choose, and how do you convince your team owner and pay check signer to go along with it?
