So now that the Spezza ordeal is done and you received 3 young players + 2nd, what is the expectation with Ryan?
1 year left however no injury problems and is younger than Spezza. |

Travis Yost: Thursday Thoughts
-- If you were making an all "best contract" team, I think Turris makes the cut. A pair of wingers in Montreal's Max Pacioretty and Edmonton's Taylor Hall are also on unbelievable deals. - Travis Yost
Ahem. Mr. Tavares has as bone to pick with you. |

They have to sign Ryan. It'll be crushing for their fans if they lose him, have to keep your top tier talent. |

Not to sound harsh, but why would Ryan stay? |

That's a nice contract.. Pronman has you guys ranked pretty high in his organization rankings. I like your guys system |

I was initially quite skeptical of this myself... however, from what I can tell Ryan seems to be genuinely appreciative of having been released from his situation in Anaheim, enjoys the fact that he's in more of a prominent role, and has taken quite a liking to playing with the Senators. The team's brass appear to be quite taken with him as well, so if they offer something in the general vicinity of what he could fetch on the UFA market and kick in the 8th year, I think there's an excellent chance that he could re-sign even before training camp. That said, if they make an insulting offer like they did to Hemsky, start the season poorly, and give his agent time to start glimpsing free agency alternatives, then I think the chances of him walking get stronger and a stronger as the season progresses. |

The problem is we've been high on the list of organizational rankings for a few years now. That's all fine and dandy but we need to being ranked high on the list of Eastern Conference teams now |

I think in a dollars-to-talent ratio he's gotta be on top of that list.
I didn't realize how good Turris' possession numbers were until this morning though. |

Hey Travis,
I think the one thing you don't talk about is that Turris' deal is a better deal to other big spending teams. Namely that relative to the cap $3.5M/$56M > $3.5M/$69M. So for Ottawa's perspective it's like a $4.3125 cap hit.

I see no reason why we can't make the playoffs. Capuano still sucks, which won't help. If we avoid the annual November-Islander-Tire-Fire I'd say we probably have a fair shot at the playoffs. |

Given the recent signings for defensemen I think you have to put Erik Karlsson in the "best contracts".
Shea Weber 14yrs (wait, what?) 110M$, 7.85M$ per
Ryan Suter 13yrs (holy hell) 98M$, 7.53M$ per
PK Subban 8yrs 72M$, 9M$ per
Kris Letang 8yrs 58M$, 7.25M$ per
Drew Doughty 8yrs 56M$, 7M$ per
A. Pietrangelo 7yrs 45.5M$, 6.5M$ per
Erik Karlsson 7yrs 45.5M$, 6.5M$ per
Zdeno Chara 7yrs 45.5, 6.5M$per
You have to factor in their age and when they signed the contract, but Norris trophy winning Karlsson, still only 24 with 5 more years on his contract, is the best deal out of all of them in my opinion. He will probably cost way more when he's a UFA, and it may surpass all the others in terms of money, but right now, he's the best deal for a top defensemen. |

Dean Brown is pretty good. I hope he stays, or we get someone good from CBC's crew. Drunk Potvin, although good for some enterainment, is pretty replaceable. The Chris Neil of the broadcast team. |

Gotta figure Dean Brown is heading to TSN. Would be disappointing not seeing him do Sens games anymore. He may not be iconic on a league level, but most Sens fans have grown up having him detail the games. Would be a rough start for the Sens on TSN if they brought in some random guy over Dean Brown. |

That's my ranking of best contracts for their team |

Top line for the best contracts would be
Pacioretty Tavares Hall - Vukota
Pacioretty at 4.5 over Benn at 5.2?
For what benn brings to the table that contract has to be up there for one of the best |

You need to also take in consideration that Karlsson signed with 4 RFA years left... which lowers the cap space by a lot. |
