Ok... asking any question with Harold (HAAAAARRRRRROOOOLLLLLDDDDD - I can even remember starting that chant at a Vancouver Canadians baseball game many years ago.) is going to be a Harold landslide.
Rick Ball --- GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!! Hated the guy. I would rather Team 1040 use a simulcast of Shorty that was out of sync than listen to him.
Dan Russell is free. I know that is not a popular option amongst the young brain washed homer-radio crowd but he does a great job in the WHL and knows his stuff from Alberts to Zalapsky. |

Is Ball any good?
Doesn't really matter. He can't possibly be any worse than Simmer and Kerr.... - Iggysbff
Ball is a football guy. As such, he is a moron. He repeats himself endlessly. He uses way too many clichés and catchphrases and generally is the verbal equivalent of hitting your thumb repeatedly with a hammer.
When he had his own Talk show, he was famous for throwing out a ridiculous or ill-timed question and then monologue about it the entire night.
"That was a great win by Edmonton tonight, really nothing to complain about... but what if aliens came down in the third period and shoved socks up everyone's noses while whistling the theme from theme from 'Mad Men'? That's a good question and before I open the phones, let me give you a few thoughts.... (55 minutes later) .... and that is how peanut butter saved the Irish from certain doom against the George Michael and Wham!. Oops out of time...."
I kid you not. |

He caught on to the phase "Are you Kidding Me?" whenever the Lions did something that was moderately above average and stuck with it for years.
"It's a nice day here in Vancouver", "Are you kidding me!"
"They should be opening the roof for this afternoon's tilt." "Are you kidding me!"
and so on and so on...

Or Dan Russell...sorry BJ I tried watching and listening to his WHL broadcsts on Shaw, I found paint drying far more informative and entertaining.
Best thing CKNW ever did was cancel his 10 o'clock show.
Really disliked Ball's football commenting but thought he was better with the hockey broadcasts |

The closer september gets the more excited I'm getting. I've been playing a tonne of hockey during the summer to make up for the void the Canucks left, but it just isn't enough. I was listening to Pratt show in the morning, and he was being cautiously optimistic about the team. Acknowledged that it's not winning a cup, but he's happy with the changes. I don't usually agree with the guy, but his analysis made sense to me.
The wildcard for sure has to be Ned Flanders. Who knows how his coaching style is going to effect the team. People were so hyped about his signing, but haven't really talked about it since. It's hard to analyze a coach without watching their system first hand, but zero mention has been made since the hiring.
Even if they do end up poopting the bed this season, there will be plenty to talk about on the farm. It's gonna be a good season. - Gullzy
Everyone is commenting on the number of question marks-players, management, coaching changes but I guess the results of any of these changes is a question mark until players are on the ice and playing meaningful games.
With so many posters on here questioning whether they will make the playoffs, I expect people to be unhappy either way. Make the playoffs, don't get a good pick. Miss the playoffs, but didn't suck bad enough to get a good pick.
I just want to see them compete but not mortgage the future on short sighted trades for rentals at the tdl.
There is a lot more optimism at this time than there was last year.
I just keep thinking about last season, until Christmas the Canucks were in a playoff spot and then the wheels, axles, and all just blew up in January. Turned out the steering wheel came totally off the steering column and Tortorella was yelling at Edler, Booth and Burrows in the back seat, ignoring the chasm we were speeding towards....
Needing bounce back seasons from many and if Bonino can get anywhere close to Keslers or, better yet, his own point totals from last season, then I think we are a playoff team. |

The show was good, the host... not so much. Got tired of him belittling callers who disagreed with him. Putz. |

Craig Coxe inspired one of the best signs ever at a Canucks game against the Oilers...

Sounds like Dan Tencer (AKA Milhouse) on 630 Ched Edmonton. Worked for the Oilers so he had job security to worry about but still.
2 days before the trade that brought in Roloson.
"I've said it a thousdand times...goaltending is not the problem in Edmonton"
2 days after the Roloson trade.
"The goaltending was dismal, but Roloson might be the answer to one area that has really plagued the Oilers". |

Craig coxe was one dangerous guy. Fighting probert was epic. I would have voted for him but Harold was one of the most popular Canucks ever. Harold is right up there with Smyl, linden, bure, etc... |

How true is that statement, and I agree with you, be competitive, try to win every game, it's not going to happen but at least try. To many players mailed it in last season. Let the fanatics jump off the bridge when we don't get a top 5 pick, play to win and make adjustments as needed. |

Tom Larschied will be more involved with the 1040 this year now that Gililis is gone. He and Trevor were friends |

I still say Dan Russell with ... Ray Ferarro! That's the ticket!
I did not think Dan went out of his way to be rude to callers... First of all, he would take more in his three hour show than team 1040 does in a week. Second, he does not suffer fools. He is too smart so if a caller comes in with a statement and not able to back it up, he would get called onto the carpet for it.
I guess I am biased. I listened to him since the 80s and wish he would come back.

It would. Also Dan Russell may return I don't think it is to far fetched he did say he was taking a hiatus not retirement. |
