Why would one of the options with Nylander be 2 years with the steelheads in the O?? Why is it 2?? If they decide to send him to the OHL this year (can't see why they would) he doesn't have to spend 2 years there.

He'd have to make the NHL to get out of there, or flee to Europe. He'll be 19 when the second season would start so he it would be OHL or NHL.

He wasn't drafted out of the O, thus he's not subject to the same rules. He could play this year and in the AHL next year.

Are you sure? That doesn't sound right...

Oscar Dansk was required to stay another year, though maybe he just decided to stay another one...

I think he should go back to Europe, not burn an ELC year with the Marlies just yet.

OHL, I don't know how much he'd learn, he's been playing with men.

Im sure. John Carlson, D'Amigo,...... if you are not drafted out of the OHL you don't have to play till 20 as is the rules.

I don't want him to go to the O either. I think AHL makes sense as he learned more of the NA game, the WJC is in toronoto/Mtl this year. Better to keep an eye on him.

Didn't D'Amigo play in the AHL first then go to the OHL, but was 20 before the start of the second season so he could go back to the AHL?

John Carlson is an interesting case. Man it's a rare occurrence.

Yeah I think D'Amigo doesn't apply... But carlson is. It is rare.

I would assume the owners and such would be right royally pissed

Just did some digging on Carlson, so he made the NHL out of camp and they waited until he had turned twenty in January before sending him to the AHL and since he didn't start in the OHL he wasn't required to serve that year. Wow what a (frank)ing sneaky play. Good old "conditioning stint" and 7th dman appearances.

Yes, he's right. It's the league you're drafted out of. If you're drafted out of a European league, the CHL/AHL/NHL transfer rules do not apply, ever.

It's true.

When you turn 20 mid-season, you can't just flip over to the AHL the day you turn 20 either. The rule applies for the full season. I'm not sure if it was the same way pre-2013 CBA, but it is now. December 31 of the season, must be 20 by then. If you turn 20 Jan 1, you can't transfer until the following season.

Doesn't happen often, but yeah sneaky. I think mainly the carlson situation was that he was drafted out of the USHL, in the belief that he'd be going to college.... But the caps convinced him to go to London. Doesn't happen often.

Seems Slutty did a similar move to Carlson.

By the way, thanks for reminding me of a time Tlusty was the top prospect in Toronto.
