annnd again.

If any of you were in the yahoo fantasy league 'straight shooterz' last year, I sent emails out for renewal. Give it a look if you haven't already.

If anyone is interested, I made this league specifically for hockeybuzz peoples, giving the Devils thread priority of course. This will be the 5th year of this league.. hard to believe.
It's 20 teams, with full rosters, full bench... so it's a long draft and you gotta know your stuff.

Forwards/Defensemen Stat Categories: Goals (G), Assists (A), Plus/Minus (+/-), Penalty Minutes (PIM), Powerplay Points (PPP), Shorthanded Points (SHP), Shots on Goal (SOG), Faceoffs Won (FW), Hits (HIT), Blocks (BLK)

Goaltenders Stat Categories: Wins (W), Goals Against Average (GAA), Saves (SV), Save Percentage (SV%), Shutouts (SHO)

I'm waiting for the other 6 managers to renew, but I deleted 2 inactive managers from last year, so there's 2 spots open, and maybe more soon. If you're interested and plan on being active all year, message me your email so I can send you an invite. Draft date/time isn't finalized yet but it'll be end of Sept/beginning of October.

I hate life. Our multi-award winning play by play guy is gone. His counter-balance ding dong Chico is gone. The only Stevens-type player we will ever have on our team is gone. The resilient days when we had guts and heart and promise are gone.

.. but at least we have a Schneider.

This Gelinas business is getting concerning. According to TG's article his agent isn't even asking for $1.5mil. I know Larsson is only getting 900k but do we really need a holdout like this on our hands?
- MannySilvers

I said back in the beginning of the summer this will drag on. People get paid for point production, and that's one thing Gelinas has going for him.

Despite all his defensive flaws/lack of playing time etc. his agent still has a huge bargaining chip. He's also not as young as people think, at 23. He's probably looking for a decent contract, and I don't blame Lou for being conservative.

I liked Stevens as a player, too.

But let's be honest, our defense hasn't exactly been tough as nails since he got behind the bench. If anything, NJ has the softest D in the league.

From an nj.com article by Chere as to why Stevens left:

"According to several current and former Devils players who did not want to speak on the record, it is believed Stevens did not feel enough of his ideas were being heard on a club that has missed the playoffs two straight seasons.

The former defenseman does not like the grueling travel schedule and being away from his family, which was a major factor. While his relationship with coach Pete DeBoer seemed solid, Stevens is said to feel the travel isn't worth it unless he could institute more of his own strategical ideas.

Stevens apparently told Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello some time ago that he did not want to return this season. Lamoriello said only that Stevens, not the team, made the decision to step down."

Gelinas, coming off a solid rookie campaign in which he scored 29 points in 60 games, is at loggerheads with the Devils about salary — something Lupien alluded to with these colorful remarks that highlight just how much fun it is to negotiate with New Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello.

From NorthJersey.com:

“It’s all up to Lou. Lou is the boss. We’re waiting to see what Lou wants to do.

“It’s always money. It’s always money and [Lamoriello] loves to play with the power. That’s what everybody knows.

“I hope [Lou's] going to give me a call before training camp. He knows what we think. What can we do? It’s only the way people work. That’s the way Lou is working and good. I told him that. ‘That’s O.K.’ You don’t always agree on the way you work.”

(frank)ing Lou....

Have you seen Santini play at all? I have a sneaky suspicion that in a year or two we may have a defenseman name Steven delivering some highlight reel hits.

And let's be honest, outside of Bryce Salvador who is not exactly in his prime, who have we had since Stevens has been behind the bench that brings physicality as part of their skill set? A physically worn down Volchenkov?
