JFC. he's the absolute worst. how does this guy STILL have a (frank)ing job?
- hammarby31

It is absolutely insane that guys like him and whatshisface that thought they have shootouts in the playoffs still have credentials as hockey writers. I could do their job at a fraction of the price and not try to stir poop up with every ill advised blog post.

If Laughton doesn't make the Flyers out of camp, I see him quitting hockey and pursuing a career in porn.

You said he's not better by any measure. I showed you two. Others have shown up to 3 more.

And yes, the ability to skate fast and remain balanced actually have a lot to do with being am effective hockey player.

seems like hbo is splitting from the road to the winter classic. honestly, the only thing i'll miss about those shows is liev schreiber's voice-over talent.

I wonder how Parros is doing. Did he play again after his head bounced on the ice in Montreal like a super ball?

Schreiber is amazing. I met him about 15 years ago in Manhattan. He was coming out of a parking garage. I asked him a few questions about Scream. Really nice guy.

Have you ever seen the First 48 on A&E? The guy that did the narrating for that was great. Show has been ruined. Ice T is now the voice of the show, and they have added dramatizations. Show blows now.

George James Parros (born December 29, 1979) is an ice hockey player, who plays right wing who is currently an unrestricted free agent of the National Hockey League. He is known as one of the enforcers for the team. He was part of the 2007 Stanley Cup winning Anaheim Ducks.

Man, those unrestricted free agents are gonna be a handful.

I haven't watched it for a while, but my wife used to watch it a lot. I always kinda felt weird. Someone would die, and the detectives would get all happy and giddy when they finally nailed the guy(s) responsible. Like, I know you have to be able to separate things, but it should be more bittersweet than celebratory.

I don't disagree with your sentiment. I think some of the detectives on the first 48 are doing some play acting for the cameras.

Maybe. It was just weird at times. Like, they'd even go to the house of grieving family with big smiles on their face like, "Hey guys, have we got some news to cheer you right up! Remember how your son died? Well, we arrested someone. HIGH FIVES!"

so there are a bunch of minor rule changes this year. i'm a bit confused by this, which is directly from nhl.com

* Rule 38.4 (viii) has been modified to allow broader discretion to Hockey Operations to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g., to ensure they are "good hockey goals"). The revised Rule will allow Hockey Operations to correct a broader array of situations where video review clearly establishes that a "goal" or "no goal" call on the ice has been made in error. The new expanded rule will also allow Hockey Operations to provide guidance to referees on goal and potential goal plays where the referee has blown his whistle (or intended to blow his whistle) after having lost sight of the puck.

ummmmm....wtf does that mean? "provide guidance"? they can't just get out of their own way, can they?

- hammarby31

Sounds like they're trying to say they're going to be more forgiving on those goals where refs don't see the puck but it's clearly loose.

Sounds like they're saying, "Play to the whistle. Or, if the puck's loose, play till 5 seconds after the whistle."

Right now if they did or intended to blow their whistle a goal call can't change. They are (unbelieveably) giving the war room the opportunity to allow a goal if it's scored after the referee stops play or intended to stop play because they lost sight of the puck.

The last one blew chunks for the most part and most teams are doing some version through the NHL on a weekly or monthly basis. I think they reeled in their property is all. HBO just won't be involved.

I read as more that they are going to suggest to a referee whether a goal should count or not and give guidance to that referee on those types of plays. But I could be wrong
