This Bellemare video is old but maybe some of you haven't seen it. My favorite goal is at 2:45.

I've seen this and like how he plays with personality. I hope it translate to how he plays here. |

So the better option would have been to sit Vinny, Grossmann, and Meszaros for the majority of the season and to replace them with Gustafsson and 2 AHLers? - jmatchett383
One game at least would have sufficed. To send a message to the player and the team as a whole that the standards of accountability are the same across the board. |

One game "to send a message" could have been the difference between making the playoffs and not making the playoffs. |

Well, the end of your post is kind of my point. He's made 3 moves, really. One points to a better player analytically (Umberger > Hartnell), one points the other way (Rinaldo), and one is a player who will struggle to see NHL time (White). I don't think there's enough of a sample pool to say either he does or does not.
Also, not all roster moves should be driven simply by analytics, otherwise every NHL roster would look more or less the same, and no one would want to touch players like Ryan Suter or Shea Weber because of their negative Corsi Rel. numbers. - jmatchett383
Umberger is not better than Hartnell by any measure. |

With the hole thy were in one game wasn't an option. You miss the playoffs by the one game you thought a msgewa needed you better start looking for a new job |

What exactly did Lecavalier, Grossmann, etc. bring to the table when they were struggling? They're out of the lineup because they were sucking not because they upset Papa Snider or something. |

But those players were playing terribly. It may have helped the team to have another in for a game. |

So which our fantastic AHL players (1 center, 1 defenseman) are we going to replace them with, keeping in mind there wasn't always room under the cap to do so? |

Gus could have easily replaced any one of the dmen (and probably should have in most cases). McGinn or Akeson could've played for Vinny, etc. |

No he isn't, but if their production is relatively equal like it was last season while keeping their penalty minutes the same....Ill take that tradeoff.
And as I said before, I think that is the crux of why he was dealt. I read too many comments about being more disciplined coming from Berube to believe any other way.
I am also in the camp that Hartnell was not going to change his ways.

We actually had McGinn in the lineup. He was awful. Akeson does not play center, which is where Vinny was playing. And we already have Gus in, replacing Meszaros. We need another one for Grossmann. |

People always talk about the 50's, but we need to look further back, into the days of Eddie Shore, King Clancy, Auriel Joliat, Howie Morenz, Cyclone Taylor, Joe Malone, and one-eyed Frank McGee. - jmatchett383

Doesn't have to be at the same time. In fact I don't know why it would be.
I don't care if he sits guys or not, but Berube can't preach accountability without holding everyone to the same standard. That can breed all sorts of discontent from certain players. Besides, if a player doesn't realize they are accountable for his play then he is a dingus. |
