I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think that Markstrom would clear waivers. If he works his ass off in Utica and shows improvement he might raise his trade value to a 7th round pick.

Flames had a less than solid NHL team out there, which is really not any different than it will be come October 8th, that said, it's about regaining confidence, which they look to be doing.

I heard on the Radio that Russell was their only NHL regular on D. I guess they wanted to have a real good look at some of those Jabroni prospects.

That team is much further behind in their rebuild that the Flames fans want to admit. Further ahead than the Oilers were at that point, mind you, but still 3 full seasons of no playoffs to come, IMO.

Yeah , they are coming along nicely. Their prospects are better than their core .

That's kind of the issue. They clearly want to see Gudreau, Klimchuck, Beartschi, Granlund, Bennett, Monohhan, Arnold, Smith and Poirier on the club at some point, which we be fine in about 5 years...but at some point sooner than that those guys will be better than the current veterans and will probably make the club. No different than the Oilers, too many kids in the line up because they can only hold them back so long.

I don't think it's so much about holding them back as it is about making them earn their spot. There's a good chance that Bennett gets sent down and Draisatti (sp?) makes the Oilers even though Bennett looks more ready. MacT has done a good job so far, but hoping that their newest draft pick can fill the 2C role instead of finding someone to hold it down in the short term will probably hurt them this year.

I'm not disagreeing at all, I'm just not sure how gradual the Flames can integrate these kids into the line up. It's much different than the Oilers in the sense that they currently have NHL players and don't need to push them, but the time will come when the Flames have less experience in their line up than they do even this year.
Another thing to consider is their as of yet undrafted players. They might be forced to get McDavid in the line up a year from now.

This is the one thing I like that the flames are doing is not forcing any kids in ...the free agent signing the last few years have not been much to write about but they have been good enough to force kids to beat out nhl calibre players and not just be the best on the depth chart at a position....I think the oilers are doing this too more than in the past which will help the the kids in their system now ....as for the Canucks I will be very surprised to see 2 of hunter Bo or Jensen on their roster come November

Yeah I do ...the key is to allow him to not be the main go to guy ...if Connor is a 2nd line or sheltered minutes guy than that's ok ...if he has to be the guy ..than you get into issues ...

Sometimes GMs can make you wonder how they got their job

I feel all three of the Nucks flames and oil are in better hands than their previous gms

Well no what I was getting at was do you see the Flames team with more than a half dozen forwards under the age of 22 in the near future?

I get the mandate Tambo was given, even in the 2nd year....but by the time he drafted Yak he should have started making changes. He sucked.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a minny approach were you add a couple higher profile free agents to avoid having a top 6 all under the age of 22

Obviously free agents are clamouring to come to Calgary but you can over pay and it could happen

Word has it that he was expected to make changes in the short season, but when he did nothing at the deadline K-Lowe had his mind made up.

So 27 players in camp including Hunter, Bo an Nick Jensen...exciting times!

Add in the fact that 8 are D, one is a goalie, and one is Sestito and we should have two young guys on the team this year.

I think Shink is a lock. Kid has looked really good. I could see him get 20 goals this season if he can stick on the second line.

Maybe just dreaming

Here's a first Oilers Flames and Canucks all having a decent conversation

The Trolling on this site has sure fallen off in most cases except for a few.

With Powerplay time I think 14-18 shouldn't be a problem for him. Making the jump to the pros is a huge shock for prospects in regards to the workload.
