All I ever heard about Markstrom is that "Oh, Florida will never trade him. He is their future." That and anything that Gillis may have said to promote the young goalie.... now that it seems no one wants him, even on waivers, then ... do I....do I think the impossible and that Gillis was lying?
Ether way, glad to see he is still around. |

Here's a first Oilers Flames and Canucks all having a decent conversation
The Trolling on this site has sure fallen off in most cases except for a few. - VANTEL
I'll Esplen things up a bit for you.
Canucks will win the Pacific division, Oilers finish dead last, Flames get relegated to the AHL because they are so bad. Corrado wins the Norris, Shinkaruk the Calder, Lack the Vezina (Miller gets traded mid season), Bieksa the Hart and the ghost of Kesler (Bonino) the Conn Smythe. |

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think that Markstrom would clear waivers. If he works his ass off in Utica and shows improvement he might raise his trade value to a 7th round pick. - CubanBuffet
You didn't think he would clear? He's (frank)ing junk. You guys are much better off without him. It's like being surprised Garrett Sparks cleared. |

28 players still in camp and realistically only 1 spot up for grabs IMO. Erickson, O'Rielly, Corrado are as good as gone, leaving Horvat,Jenson and Shink battling for the last spot. Sestito won't be sent down at this point, I think he will sit in the press box for 80% of the games. With Richardson injured we might see both Horvat and one of Jenson/Shink for 9 games. My guess is Horvat for 9 and Jensen stays up.
I'm kinda surprised that Jeffrey is gone because unless Benning plans on having a young guy in the press box or a guy is traded, Dorsett is most likely not dressed.
I also can't see having more than 1 D in the box as Corrado looks like he needs more time in Utica.

I can't see how Jensen stays up while Shink is set down.
IMHO, Jensen still hasn't showed enough to earn a spot on the team. |

I know....people put way too much stock into a goalie that has a 29% win percentage in 47 games in the nhl. I think some people here drank Gillis' kool aid abit too much.
As for Sestito if we have to waive someone in his role I'd prefer it be Dorsett. Waiving Sestito would be a huuuuuge mistake this year. But then again I'm smart enough to know that the Canucks don't expect him to be a 20pt player. |

I don't think Markstrom's "junk", he's got all the physical tools to be a good player, but, his technique, from what I've read, is absolutely terrible. He's never been coached properly, add to that, he's only 24 years old, there's plenty of time for him to develop into an NHL starter.
Mikka Kiprusoff was 29 years old before he became an NHL starter, give the kid some time. |

I think they both have looked good, I just think that Jensens size and experience will put him ahead of shink. Nice thing is we will probably see both for periods of time this year. |

I would love to see a couple of the young guys (Horvat and Shinkaruk) stick. If that were the case:
Sedin Sedin Vrbata
Shinkaruk Bonino Kassian
Burrows Vey Higgins
Matthias Horvat Hansen
Sestito Dorsett Richardson
But I have a feeling that the line up will look more like this, at least to start. Benning and Linden seem like they have no problem letting young guys develop in the AHL for a bit. With everyone healthy I think we'll see something like this:
Sedin Sedin Vrbata
Burrows Bonino Kassian
Hansen Vey Higgins
Matthias Richardson Hansen
Sestito Dorsett
*I would happily trade anyone bolded for picks/roster space. |
|
|

Hansen and Kassian will be pushed by horvat and shink. I dont think kassian stays with the team if he doesnt perform. new management |

You have Hansen listed twice, my point was more that Dorsett will be a press box guy unless a trade is made.

Doubt it. He is a WD / JB / TL guy. Sestito, Matthias would sit before Dorsett IMO. |

Dorsett>>>Sestito
I guess you believe in the "having a tough guy skate around for 5 mins a game protects your star players" theory? Doesn't ever stop LA from taking runs at the Sedins. You either have team toughness or you don't. Some plug skating around for 5 mins and fighting the other team's tough guy AFTER an incident isn't gonna do anything.
McGratton had no problem finishing Alberts' career either.
In fact, waiving Sestito would actually mean some teams wouldn't dress their "tough guy" against us because most coaches know that better players simply won't fight an ECHL-talent. |

Yup, now that Henrik can deal with John Scott, there is no need for sestito |

Dorsett got KO'd by KB3 last year. Most other teams got waaaay tougher in our division. It's not a theory...how often did you see bartschi or monohan get run? How about couture or Hertl this year? Our team has a very big wussy mentality, they never go after other teams stars....but I guess that attitude matches the city Look at how Sestito was a warrior for us last year. Honestly Dorsett is afraid of his own shadow. |

See my edit. I'm sorry but having Sestito skate around like a clueless slug on the ice for 5 minutes doesn't make this team tough. |

Sestito is awesome. Dorsett and Sestito definitely make the team, likely between Richardson.
Third line has vey or Horvat with Higgins and burrows. 2nd line has shinkaruk with Bonino and Kassian. Hansen gets sent packing. Jensen sent to minors and will be first call up. |

What is Sestito awesome at? If all you guys want is a tough guy to play a couple of mins and pray that his line doesn't get scored on then why did they not just sign John Scott?

Come on, he's way better at hockey than Scott.
He will protect the young guys, without him none of the forwards on our team fight. Heck, Bieksa would be the only fighter on the team. If things got out of hand, there would be no one. Dorset and Sestito make the team without a doubt, Canucks would be push overs otherwise. |

Will he be on the ice to protect them? He's kinda useless otherwise with the instigator rule in place, guys like Jordan Nolan can just turtle after the fact and continue to take runs at the Sedins again the next game(which he's already done). |

That's why you need a Dorsett to take runs at Kopitar and DD first. |
