Either your head is hard, or you're just "f"ing around.
You know as well as I do that the ON ICE officials do not have the benefit of replay.
Three goals were scored last night that were waved off, and if (as in the NFL) there was a "Coach's Challenge" in the NHL, all three of those waved off goals would have been overturned, in my opinion. - Doppleganger
Why were they waived off? The on ice officials do have to benefit of replay on goals waived off such as goal posts off, high sticking, kicking, did it actually go in.
So they do have the benefit of replay, contearay to what you said. |

I apologize for mis-reading Dopp's original comment - the refs DO have the benefit of slow motion replay. The two goals were actually waived off for reasons that are not reviewable, which was my point - the SENS did not benefit from slow-motion replay. I was so angered, in fact, that I was strongly considering a firmly-worded tweet on the matter. |

should have gone with "letter" instead of tweet.
Why were they waived off? I guess goalie interference? Probably the main play that isn't reviewable. |

One was "ref lost sight of the puck" made worse by the fact that the puck was loose behind / under Elliot and was tucked nicely into the net before the whistle blew, but the ref had the INTENTION of blowing the whistle. It happens, but screw that guy.
Second was "incidental contact with the goalie" when the Blues dude (Chris Butler) cross-checked Condra onto Elliot's leg. Condra scooted to the far side of the paint to try to get up while Butler dry humped his goalie for a few seconds, then kicked the puck into his own net. Again, stuff happens, but at the time I was grabbing for a thesaurus and my license key to Tweetdeck, ready for battle.
So yeah, two unreviewable plays. St. Louis also had a goal called off early in the first due to incidental contact, so I'm guessing the refs were betting the under... |

We don't have unders? I'm admittedly not really "in" on the whole betting scene... is under not a thing? Did I just embarrass myself? Again? |

I'm not a better either, was referring to the whole shaving points thing that is apparently going on in college football and nba (easier to do it seems).
There is over under in nhl. There is a pro line game over/under. |

It is not incidental contact when the defence man pushed Condra into Elliott.
None of the three goals waved off in the game should have been disallowed, but as I said, the on ice officials do not have the benefit of seeing these plays in slow motion replay, during the game.

Well your right JVR is a better comparison but I will bet the sens are just glad to be the best team in Ontario. Perhaps that is the leafs problem, they focus on individuals and not the team and that is why they suck. - jordan456789

prock comes back from 2 month ban (or however long you've been gone).......prock chirps ryan........ryan gets hattrick
- sensarmy_11
Look at the time of the post. He had already scored two.
At the time, that brought him even with David clarkson I think. Now he is 1 up. Gonna be a tight race. |

Do you think the leafs playing on the road like the rest of the teams will cause them to dip in scoring? |

For the next three games? They have three less games than the Habs. That's all.
Look, you said something stupid. Don't worry about it, it happens. But you shouldn't try to deflect. It's obvious. |

I was mostly talking about the sens who have played 44% of their games at home compared to the leafs at almost 60% of their games at home. The habs are at 50%. I forgot that the leafs last 4 have been on the road dropping their percentage to 59%. You must have to admit that up until this road trip playing 67% of your games at home is an advantage |

Meh, I'd rather play a road game against the send than a home game against Pittsburgh
If they had played all road games against bad teams you'd be pointing to that.
They've played and beat many of the top teams in the league. They haven't had an easy schedule. |

I don't have time to check the schedule to see who they played but 67% of your games at home to start the season is pretty good. For your sake I fear this road trip where you make up for it. The sens don't ever seem to play at home so they may catch up |

They're out on the road because of the WJC, and was also the reason for so many home games early in the season.
So will be a true test of the team, as the "matchups" will not be in their favour as much as when playing at home.
A quick look at their (Jan) schedule shows three games in four nights VS the Kings, Ducks, Sharks and the Blues all on the road.............brutal for any team.

Yes. That is the rough stretch they have.
However, due to playing so many top teams early in the year (21 of 37 games so far against teams currently in a playoff spot), the teams they play get quite a bit easier.
So, 5 games against Detroit already. Only one against Ottawa. I'd prefer to play 4 games remaining against Ottawa, and none against Detroit, no matter where they're being played. It's much easier playing basement dwellers in their city than top teams in your own.
In all of February AND March, the only teams currently in one of their top 3 divisional spots that the Leafs have to play, are Washington, Nashville, NYI, and Montreal x2, other than that 4 game stretch. That's 8 games against divisional top 3 teams in 25 games (San Jose in a wildcard spot). Only 3 more against teams in wildcard spots. for a total of 11 teams of 25 in playoff spots. And 14 against non-playoff teams.
All that, because they had such a tough schedule early in the year. |

caught the end of the leafs game tonight, looks like it's going to be a rough road trip. Kessel whining to the refs, when they still had time left in the game to perhaps tie it up. |

So criticizing the refs after missing a slash on him is whining? That was a ridiculous call. |

I watched the "Slash" a couple of times in slow motion and frame by frame, and noticed that he was "Slashed" of the buttend of his stick (Left hand) and for some reason raised his right hand, presumably to attract the attention of the Ref (turning his head to look around) and them ran into another player..............got pissed off, amd then went around the ice mouthing off at all the officials..........and showing no sign of a "Slash" that hit the buttend of his stick.
Sure looked like he was trying to draw and penalty, failing and then trying to "sell it" to the officials.
In any case, it was a selfish move on his part, and the post game commentators pretty much said so. |

he hit him in the hand.
Also, still slashed him, regardless of where it hit him.
Winnik got called for slashing earlier in the game (horrendously weak call) and Minny scored on it. winnik was hooked (no call) on the same play, and turned around and whacked the guy.
They gave Kessel a penalty because they were poop at the job, which in turn makes them even worse at their job. |
