Coaching was a HUGE problem in this game. When Hunt is the second highest dman for TOI, there is a problem. Petry and Ference playing the least. Nail getting less time than Pouliot. I will repeat that... Pouliot. Eakins still won't give up that grudge.

Lets put it this way. Calgary with 1 PPG and both of EDM's were. Petry has a +/- of 0 but Fayne, who played more was -3.

The Oil out shot them with calgary getting more than half their shots in the third period. We had less give aways and more take aways. Our FO wins were almost twice theirs. We had 1/3 of the blocked shots because the d we had out were 1/3 as good as normal NHL dmen. We let Petry and Ference ride the bench and Ference still managed to get 1/3 of our total blocked shots himself. Petry had 5 of our 18 hits (highest on the team)

Yes Scrivens looked silly out there are some points but you can't fault him on goals like the last one. The Oilers were everywhere and he made about 30 saves before letting that one in. Only so much you can expect from him. Part of this is MacT. Nikinin and Fayne were not the answers to our problem. Hunt isn't even good enough for the Barons. Plus we should have had addressed our center issue.

Still Eakins had to go. We all knew it and hoped we were wrong but you can hang this on him. We had Calgary until the third period and yes I believe playing the right players could very well have made all the difference.

Speaking of poop talk, had a solid one this morning

I have no problem with trash talking, but the same old poop every time gets old. The problem this team has is defense and last night the goaltending was shaky. The kids played a decent game last night. Forgetful 3rd period. World isn't ending. Most nights if they play a game with the effort of the first 40 they will be in a position to win.

I keep seeing this term "back-up goalie" associated with Karri Ramo, both in the pre-game and now the post-game blogs/comments. Is the hockey world at large really that unaware of the Calgary goaltending situation?

Ramo put up great starter-level numbers once he was actually given the starter role last season. Hiller was brought in to challenge him for that role, but they're starting the season on completely even footing. Ramo is probably more likely to be the starter going forward after the performances of each goalie so far.

Size was an issue for sure. Pouliot, Purcell, nikitin, draisaitl, Yakimov, khaira etc etc. Some of these guys are huge. Some are enormous.

Depth was a problem. Fayne, nikitin, Purcell, Pouliot, Hendricks, Gordon
Etc etc

Goaltending; dubnyk and lababs were a problem so he upgraded.
I don't even wanna hear Scrivens Bs yet. He was very solid for us last year. Fact.

I think it's just not an easy solution. From the garbage fire that was this franchise to a total revamp in just over a year from mact. People want a simple reason to blame, and spew the same tired cliches over and over. Like 'the fans should do something' is nothing more than an opportunity to dig at us. What fans are happy?,
Bottom line: this is the first season we've had anything close to a truly competitive roster. but it's gonna take time and move slowly. if things go south, changes will be made

Actually we started pretty good. Had good possession in their end. 2 goals on 3 shots is unacceptable. My problem is when they come to the ice and have no effort. They showed alot of effort last night. Lost a game that they should have won.
