I keep seeing this term "back-up goalie" associated with Karri Ramo, both in the pre-game and now the post-game blogs/comments. Is the hockey world at large really that unaware of the Calgary goaltending situation?

Ramo put up great starter-level numbers once he was actually given the starter role last season. Hiller was brought in to challenge him for that role, but they're starting the season on completely even footing. Ramo is probably more likely to be the starter going forward after the performances of each goalie so far.

Need to be tighter, and to get better goaltending.

but you outshoot a team 40-26, and wins won't be too too far behind.

So the first two were softies
One by deflection and one from the slot ?

I'll give you the Raymond goal as the lone one that should be saved
The others were from defensive mistakes by the oilers

I felt like Yakupov along with hall and eberle were the 3 best forwards for our team tonight. Yakupov showed well, supporting the puck low in our end and getting his stick into passing lanes. He really made a point to move the puck quickly and efficiently every time he had it. I'm really quite proud of his performance tonight.

As for Jultz, i though he looked really bad. I think he needs a different partner that compliments his style better. Whether that be Klefbom, nurse or Marincin, i dont know but we badly need to find out.

I don't think you sign a guy for $4.5 million a year just to have him compete for the starting job. Ramo is like Dubnyk from a couple years ago when the Oilers brought in Khabibulin. He might be the starter someday, but not today.

Your blogs seem to be a direct shot at some regular posters.

Almost seems like there's two camps forming. Those who blame everything on coaching/management. And those who think it's much more complicated . Maybe it's just me. But it's weird nonetheless.

Didn't hate the blog, but this paragraph was inexplicable;

-"It was a mixed bag defensively, but the Oilers were able to avoid egregious mistakes (breakaways and odd-man rushes) thanks to effective puck support. Andrew Ference had a strong game, I don’t agree with any criticisms of Mark Fayne, and Justin Schultz was decent enough. Brad Hunt was shaky, Jeff Petry had a couple dubious plays and looked out of sync, but I felt Nikita Nikitin was the worst of the bunch, turning the puck over in his own end several times."

I disagree with almost every assessment here except for the fayne part. He certainly was decent.

Anyone blaming the goalie on the 2nd goal has zero hockey knowledge

Hudler is WIDE open in the slot with nobody around him, it could be one of those famous Oiler defence meme's

Ference was brutal and mistake prone. (And I'm not one of the ference haters. I believe in the right position he can help)
Schultz was mediocre and soft on the back breaker goal.
Hunt moved the puck well and was at least adequate. Certainly not a part of the problem. Whether mm is better is not even applicable in this case.
Petry is a wonderful skater and made stuff happen early on. A little too 'hasty' as the game went on I guess. Nikitin was slow, but wasn't our worst dman

Yeah, Ramo and Hiller are the same according to the Flames. Many believe Ramo is slightly ahead at this point.

Umm, Scrivens was the one who turned the puck over behind the net. He was directly responsible for the goal.

I keep getting the excuse that they were "going for it and taking chances"

in that case why the hell is the whole team behind the net?

We paid the amount necessary to get Hiller to sign. If you look around the league at the solidified starters and their salaries, they are typically much higher than $4.5M. Besides, this being Ramo's contract year, it's possible that by the end of the season he's walking into a contract worth more than $4.5M.

Besides, did you notice Wideman, our highest paid player, up in the pressbox tonight? As Hartley said, he's not a banker, he's a coach.

It was

But The game was done at that point.
The oilers all taking chances and pushing forward to get to one down.

They made errors no doubt, but that one wasn't a 'mistake' per se

While I agree scrivens playing the puck resulted in goals ...if he stays in his net the flames players beat the defense to the puck on both occasions ...he kinda had no choice
