Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Review: Shootout Demons Be Gone! The Vancouver Canucks offered their home fans a wildly entertaining home opener as they overcame a two goal deficit to beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday.

The rest will be good for the boys, a few are banged up early here. Get Bo into the game on Friday to win some face-offs

I only caught the last ten minutes and the shootout as I was at the Cougars game, but I liked what I saw. I agree with what Elliot Friedman said last night post game about the Canucks having their "smile" back now that the distractions are gone. Hard to judge after only two games but things are looking good.

Smiles and a feel good story aside, which I'm thankful for, will only get you so far…talent on the other hand, will carry you to the playoffs.

Well that and good coaching.

The Sedins are back and a few days off will help clear up some of the early injuries.I had thought it might be handicap when I saw the schedule but it might actually workout in the team's favour.

Kassian better get his shiite together or he might get sent down. Sure hope he doesn't end up a fourth line fixture....

Early indications are it looks like it'll be a fun year. Hopefully all the tank nation numbskulls are left behind.

He would have to go on waivers and would get picked up for free

Sedins and Burrows looked faster than they did last year last night, hopefully they can keep that up throughout the season. Maybe it was just me, but I was quite surprised to see the Canucks generate more chances off of the rush using speed than Edmonton did. The Flames and Oilers are two teams with mediocre defensemen groups so I won't get excited yet(I think Giordano is really underrated, but still).

It's just refreshing to see some offensive chances generated again, especially off of the rush. Having 4 lines to roll is extremely crucial when you have a shaky second line. (frank) Sestito.

Loved Hammer's game last night, threw a couple of big hits on top of his usually solid all-around game. Tanev has to be banged up, he hasn't looked as good as he did last year these first 2 games.

Miller sucked early, but made a couple of big saves late and was money in the shootout, hopefully it was just the nerves/rust showing early.

Shame on both cbc and tsn 1040 for barely recognizing veys first career goal.

Part of it is that he wasn't drafted and developed here, the fans/media here don't have the same attachment to him as a typical rookie.

I do. I think he is going to make believers out of the fans. I think he will hit 20 this year now that he has been slotted in to a lineup spot.

I liked how the Sedins seemed so excited for Vey, Daniel practically bowled the kid over

If he stays on the top PP unit with the Twins he's gonna get some decent point totals or sure. 20 goals seems optimistic though since Willie is protecting him 5v5 by giving him bottom 6 minutes at ES.

Happy with the result but Tampa Bat will give us a better measure.
