I wouldn't want Petry unless Quincey or Kindl is part of it. Don't need another D to take a roster spot over the young guys waiting. Ouellete will be up this year if there's an injury, and will be next year full time.
The only D that is a free agent at the end of the year is Smith, and he'll be resigned, so there will still be a logjam next year. Lashoff could get waived to make room for Sproul/Marchenko, two RH guys, if either is ready.

This whole idea seems pretty stupid to me. Petry and Kindl are practically the same player. Petry looks like a one year younger R shooting Kindl. Seems pretty crazy to waste any assets on a lateral move for a guy who will be a UFA anyways. Particularly one that has probably been ruined by the Oilers, even if he is local.
Petry might get a bit of a boost if he gets out of the Oilers dysfunction zone but will it be enough to justify playing him over giving Ouellet, etc a shot first?
At least with Myers you get a younger guy and can see where he still has 1-2 potential. A big reach 3-4 at worst. I wouldn’t trade Mantha or anything close for him but it’s worth exploring.
Campbell is not a big enough upgrade to justify that salary. |

How is he much better? Maybe he's a "smoother skater" (Kindl's biggest weakness) or a "better passer", but whatever it is the kid is a healthy scratch on the Oilers so he's obviously not that great.
I don't think he's ever looked very good against the Wings, all I really remember is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Opiq-guso9A (which is a pretty Kindl like thing to do frankly).
And statistically they're pretty damn close career wise.
Petry - 6.03 -- Weight 196 Age 26
GP:238 G:13 A:46 P:59
Kindl - 6.03 -- Weight 216 Age 27
GP:215 G:9 A:40 P:49 PIM:115
Kindl has actually gotten more points in fewer games over the last few years. Sure it's hard to compare since Petry probably got more time on a bad team than Kindl did on a better team (although last year's Griffins, I mean Wings, weren't exactly stat boosters).
I'm an MSU guy and all but I just don't see any evidence that Petry is really an upgrade over Kindl.
I'm all for trading Kindle. But to trade our garbage just to be able to trade for the Oilers garbage (who has a bigger cap hit) seems pretty stupid to me.

that's disgusting for the oilers. a retread on defense and a third line center for a very young goal scoring winger who could easily turn into a superstar and a top four defenseman? why not just ask for Hall?
freakin habs fans.

Not much of a fan of Petry but he likely would be the cheapest to trade for. No way I would want the Wings to part with Mantha + for Myers...might as well forget about him. Bogosian would be a great addition as he has skill, size and can play physical...everything the Wings need in a defenseman along with his right handed shot. It would probably still cost to trade for him but his value is likely lower given some injury issues and the fact he hasn't really broken out the way a Drew Doughty has so far.
Mike Green might still be an option too given his ice time so far with Washington but personally, Bogosian would be my first choice (unless they are asking something stupid like Buffalo is for Myers). |

Bogo is awful. Probably the most overrated defenseman in the league. |

If he had no flaws in his game and was a star, the Jets wouldn't even think about trading him...same with Myers and any other player on the trading block. You're not going to get Weber, Subban, Karlsson, Doughty and players like that. All that is going to be available is players with flaws and/or players that haven't lived up to their potential or contract yet.
I also disagree with you on Bogosian. He's not all that but like Myers the potential is still there and he has the skills...just needs to put it all together. |

He has been in the league far too long to play the potential card. He is nothing more than a 4/5 D man and we have enough of those.

OMG you have a video of him flubbing on a pass and that hasn't happened to anyone else in the history of the game He turned 24 years old in July but you're right, at that age he's never going to get better. I guess every team should just get rid of talented youngsters when they turn 24 if they haven't hit their potential yet because they will never get better especially defensemen. |

McKenzie with some updates on NBCSN:
-Babcock and Holland may be waiting it out to see what direction the team is heading.
-Alfredsson situation not looking good. Final decision in 2-3 weeks.
-On Myers. Buffalo is asking for either Nyquist or Mantha. Wings not doing that. Mckenzie wonders if wings would trade Larkin.. |

You should be a scout for anyone else but the Wings with your great scouting reports. What GM wouldn't love your "he sucks" detailed analysis along with one gif Way to prove a point. |

Kindl wasn't the real problem on that goal...first it was the stupid giveaway by Abdelkader and Quincey acting like a forward and not playing defense. |

Love abby. (frank) off with that stupidity. He's a great 2 through 4th liner. Quincey and Kindl need to go the way of konstantinov in a quick manner. Would save us some space. |
