Think Homer got carried away by watching Lucic break out for Boston... thought Sestito had a shot at being that type of player.

Shelley was indefensible.

We already had a Lucic nose in Coburn

Hope Maata is alright after surgery. Pretty amazing how well he's played despite knowing he likely has a cancerous tumor in his neck.

thanks for defending mason. i think your assessment is spot on. however, berube's got to get him back in the mix - i'd say thursday, unless emery is absolutely stellar and wins the game for them - because if he allows it go too long, he will create the never ending goalie controversy.

switching to the team you said:

Ultimately, if the club wants to have reproducible good outcomes, it has to be the club that wins most of the puck battles in a game. The Flyers do that sporadically. They also are prone to long stretches where they spend too much time pinned in their defensive zone and struggle to clear the puck. There are still too many lapses in team defense, both the defensemen and the forwards.

Additionally, there are too many stretches where the club stops skating and the club can't even reliably dump pucks in with active forechecking pursuit much less carry pucks into the offensive zone. There are still prolonged segments where opposition breakouts and zone entries are too easy and the ones for Philly are elusive.

these are significant aspects of team play. i agree if they can't correct these on a consistent basis they will be fodder for the rest of the league and miss the playoffs. they have to start to play the game the right way, even if they lose. consistent approac and good habits are what will make them grow. berube can preach this all he wants, but the players have to be able to execute.

as for line combos - i'm not a fan of raffl up top - i would love to see Read up there even if just for a few games. i suspect the lines will shift a bit when VL comes back. i also hope akeson isn't on such a short leash. there's no point in putting him in the lineup if he's going to play 3+ minutes a night.

looking forward to seeing ghost against another very tough opponent.

EK reporting Sabres would want Nichushkin from Star for Myers.
Wonder if they would do B Schenn for Myers?

2.70 out here in the desert - at least a few days ago - might be less now.

i recently watched a video about a new car company that uses salt water to power the engine. amazing. if that ever becomes standard technology we won't have to worry about the ice caps melting because we'll need the water.

frack named 1 of the 3 stars of the week:

Carter had two goals and four assists in two games to help L.A. complete a perfect six-game homestand for the first time in franchise history. Carter has five goals and seven assists in eight games this season.

terrific!

(frank) you guys.

Gas is $4.50 per U.S. gallon here right now, and that's the cheapest it's been in a while.

it's been in steady decline for about a month or so. i was out here in NM last november before i moved in february, and gas was 2.75 here at the time. i was shocked. by the time i arrived in feb, it had gone back up to 3.50ish again and stayed there until this fall.

i think he's become a better player since going to LA. i don't know if i'd call him great yet. just another one that got away. i'll just state i'm happy with the return, but still...

I hope Hexy has turned a corner and doesn't devote as much to finding enforcers. It's kind of amazing how the Flyers have hurt themselves over the last few years by chasing enforcers.

Signing Shelley then having him rarely play for the next 3 seasons. Was only $1M in cap space, but for a team right up against the cap ceiling, it could have helped to have that wiggle room.

Drafting Z2 instead of a skilled player. They may not have found anyone of significance anyway, but they gave themselves no shot of finding a gem in an area where teams have found some nice prospects that year.

Trading Chaput for Sestito then waiving him.

It probably doesn't add up to a whole lot, but chasing after enforcers just hasn't worked out for them recently.

The Flyers could've waived Shelley at any time if they wanted that wiggle room.

My vote, is a big no. And I love Carter as a player. I knew how good he was when he was here, and I know how good he is now. But I wouldn't take either trade back.

Almost a full third of our gas prices here in Saskatchewan is tax.
