Garth - STOP - Your obsession with trading Myers is worse than your idolizing of Grigorenko.

If there is any truth to these Myers rumors there is no way Murray is scouting Cowen. They might take Cowen for the same reason everyone else would take Myers (maybe he gets back to form with a change of scenery), but he would not be a major part of any deal for Myers. I doubt they really want Lindholm either, but if he's the Ducks best prospect they might have to take him.

It's like a Sabres fan said in another post yesterday. The Sabres aren't going to trade Myers unless the get something they covet. The Sabres are the worst team at scoring goals in the modern NHL. Even if McDavid comes in a lights up the lamp as a rookie they are going to need to get a lot more goals from other players to be any good. So they covet other teams best potential goal scoring prospects. Hence, they want Mantha, they want Nichushkin, etc.

If the Sabres are scouting Ottawa for a Myers deal they want Lazar not Cowen. I think Ottawa would be stupid to make that deal just like the others. It's pretty obvious though that Tim Murray is going for a grand slam and thinks if he waits eventually some desperate GM with pitch it to him. I still don't think Myers is worth more than a triple but there are a lot of dumb NHL GM's out there and what's Murray got to lose anyways.

I can't blame Tim Murray to have a higher asking price for Myers, two prospects and a pick, and I do hope any one of the rumors for the return, basically a team overpaying, is what he (we) get.

Sometimes when I see the Sabres asking price I say wow, if only we could get that deal. But then after thinking about it, the deal seems like it could get done (with the right parts from either side, draft picks, or players to equal out).

Every player has a risk to them and Myers has quite an upside and has proved he can play in this league. Asking for two prospects, with high upside, that have not shown they can play in the league seems fair. It has been rare, but yu can find a few top 10 (or even a couple first overall) picks that have never made it to the NHL game.

As a Sabres fan (I know I feel bad for myself right now) I know the team is on a sharp up turn, within the next 5 years we should have a cup contending team, but trading Myers for a couple (or one high potential) prospects that could even increase that (in 3 years or so) could make both teams happy. I actually like Myers, but I am trying to think about the future, because clearly our time is not now.

If Tim gets more 1st round picks this year, I think it will be to purely trade them all for the highest single pick he can get!

Tim Murray would not be in Ottawa for Cowen for Myers, that would be Cowen for Stewart (to maybe fill an open spot at D if Myers is traded). Other than that, I agree he would want a potential first line player in the deal back.

Yeah that's more likely. Although Cowen is pretty terrible, Sabres would probably be better off trading Stewart for picks at the deadline.

I don't know much about him, just 9th overall (2009?) and Murray was there when they drafted him. I think we want picks, but Ottawa is not trying to lose another 1st (or good 2nd) round picks (traded last years) unless they knew Stewart would resign (which could be discussed, but I doubt Stewart says yes unless he gets above fair $$).

What do you think Stewart gets, maybe a 2nd (maybe 2 2nd's)? And basically that would be a lot, so that would be at the deadline. I dont love Stewart and if we can get something decent for him, I would be happy. (would add value to the Miller Ott trade that saw us lose a 1st because he did not re-sign with Blues)

The only thing I've seen Cowen do well is injure other players. Whenever I've seen him play he seems to get burned pretty easily.

I have no idea what you would get for Stewart. He looked like he would be a prototypical power forward but it's never panned out so it's another trade for the hope that he regains potential.

Sounds like a good case for "conditional" picks though. Maybe a 3 that gets bumped up to a 2 if he resigns plus a 2 that gets bumped to a 1 if they make it to the second round of the playoffs or he gets 20 goals or something like that.
