If Yakupov needs to play with our best players to produce I would argue that he himself is not a good player. Would you rather not have Yakupov on a soft comp line playing against 3rd pairing D instead of going up against the Shea Webers of the world?

no not at all, not if he's going to be playing with Gazdic, Hendricks, Pouliot. He's a young player, with a ridiculous one timer, he needs to play with people who are skilled enough to set him up for it.
Really? Not a good player because he isn't making Hendricks and Pouliot produce more when he still hasn't played 2 seasons worth of games? How does that even make sense at all?
