"Martin Marincin let Stafford walk right in on the Sabres’ second goal. He belongs in the AHL." (C)
u signed your death warrant with a lot of the faithful with this one!!
especially for those that have been using marincin's demotions as one of their main go to's for Eakins incompetency.
while I think marincin could be a mainstay on our blueline going forward, he is FAR from a dominant stalwart.. he had a few strong games when he was recalled, but hes had a few weak games now. tonight he was very mediocre.
but who else we got??!
our defence is really bad. again.
all we can really do with this group is play a zone, and clog the middle. we cant even work on gap control that much as we get beaten badly when we commit too much.
our defence is quite an adventure.
nikitin is a total circus. got a heavy shot and some reasonable offensive instincts, but hes so leadfooted. its kinda crazy. and hes either totally lackadaisical on defence or has far too much confidence for the defensive skill set he actually possesses.
while petry is our most talented defenceman, man he makes some head scratcher decisions. we shouldn't be that scared when our best defender has control of the puck in the defensive zone/ |

I couldn't agree more. Petry may be our best defender but he far from being a top pairing defender and that is a recipe for disaster.

Pretty sure this is the last time I waste my time with this guys opinion.
You don’t post YouTube videos of yourself dunking on a six-foot hoop. You don’t call out “I’m the king of the world!” after climbing a flight of stairs. You don’t talk trash after beating a blind guy in a game of hopscotch. You’re an adult, for crying out loud—you don’t even play hopscotch. And you certainly don’t do a happy dance and buy a round for the bar after the Edmonton Oilers beat the Buffalo Sabres, 3-2.
So they just cant please you? No doubt I feel they should beat the sabres by more than a goal margin, but they peppered the goalie. If they lose, we rag on them. If they win we rag on them. If they blow them out we say "Well it was Buffalo". Give me a break. Do you really think the oilers are THAT much better than Buffalo? Give your head a shake. Buffalo is NOT going to go 0-82 in ANY season, including this one. So who do they beat? So much wrong with this entire post.
It was a white-knuckle win against a team that looks to Drew Stafford as its leading scorer. (D-)
Give the oilers a D- because of the opposing teams leading scorer? You do remember we won right? In two weeks the fact we won by one goal will be irrelevant. Be happy we won, we don't get many nights like this in a season.
They trailed twice in the game, and rallied for the win after falling behind in the third period. (B+)
So they could have been so disheartened by the third period (6th period in the span of 27 hours), but yet rallied back showing character, not giving up, scoring the go ahead goal late in the third and NOT giving up a last minute third period goal (like we've been accustomed to) and you give them a B+. What would it take for an A? Down by 5 and rally back?
You should never trail the Sabres twice, or find yourself down a goal to them in the third period. (D+)
Ummm this is the NHL and any team can win any given night. Don't be surprised when Buffalo beats people higher than the oilers in the standings. Buffalo will still win at least a couple dozen games this year, and most teams are better than the oilers. I think you have a distorted view of how much better the oilers are than the sabres. Take this garbage out of here.
The grinders had to save their bacon, because the PP struggled and top line didn’t have any points. (C-)
Top lines dont score EVERY night. Especially missing your best player. Did I expect them to produce, yes. Is the sky falling cuz they didn't produce for one game? Luckily no, because the grinders chipped in for once (Which they're supposed to) but since we usually only win when the top line scores, gotta find a negative hey? You just cant be happy with a win it seems.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If hockeybuzz had a minor league web site, you'd belong there. Thank god you're not the GM!
Whatever You Do, Don’t Buy My Jersey – Petry, Yakupov, Eberle, Marincin
The team seems to be souring on Marincin a bit, but his upside would be attractive to possible trading partners.
Nope, I think it's just you! The rest of us understand he is 22 years old.
You’ll Forget I Was an Oiler in Three Weeks – Perron, Klefbom, Fasth, Scrivens, Hendricks
Perron is our one top six forward with piss and vinegar and you say he is gone? And BOTH our goalies? This gets more ridiculous by the line.
No Other Team in the NHL Wants Me – Arcobello, Aulie, Acton, Pakarinen, Joensuu
Youve seen Pakarainen play two games, how the hell do you know?
Do us all a favor and switch teams, we don't need fans like you. No wonder players hate coming here.

I thought Ryan's presentation was actually pretty clever. He did not dump on the effort. Yet, he cautioned against parades. I listened to the game on radio. Sometimes a radio broadcast provides an incredibly rich perspective on the team and where it is at with the people that really care about the team.
Anyway on the pregame the Oiler broadcasters were intent on disclosing the total failings of the Sabres. During the first period they used words like Edmonton dominates and total control. By the second period you heard language that was more balanced like Buffalo working hard and taking advantage of opportunities. In the third period the language was more suicidal, we are discouraged, sad. And, then finally a desperate escape from purgatory. A fluke goal, we are the champions, thank you Lord, thank you Jesus. We were never worried.
Great entertainment. |

How are you blaming maracin on that goal?? At times this game was pretty free flowing in the neutral zone. Stafford came in with speed and threw it on the net. I thought edmontons d played good giving the circumstances. Gave up 1 zone goal and a rush goal. I think expectations for a defenseman should be lowered. I expect a dman to limit the turnovers, not give up break aways, don't let players drive to the net and hold the blue lines.

everyone should check out Garner's twitter feed...he pretty much just hates on the Oilers with childish little rants and digs.
I highly doubt anyone actually asked you those questions, and I'm sure you posed them to yourself.
...and you didn't even answer your own questions properly and efficiently.

Agreed.
The Oilers are a pretty (frank)ing horrible team, and they've been a pretty (frank)ing horrible team forever now... If Garner wants to insult the Oilers, that's good for him... They deserve negative responses... They're sh1t. |

In Garner's defense actually, I just saw the reply loop again and Marincin backed in to the hash marks on that Stafford play (I think it was Stafford). He should have levelled him up around the blue line because he had support and the fwd was playing with the puck in his fit a bit....prime "smash" candidate....Marincin played him VERY timidly.
but yeah, Garner sucks |

The gap the Oilers defense leave for opponents to walk the blueline is/has always been too big. That particular goal was a very nice move by Stafford, 0 blame to Fasth as that was simply a goal scorers goal right there. But Marancin, like you said, should never have let him get to that position.
And Garner, I'm glad you gave Aulie some praise. A lot of people were blasting him, especially for taking another players spot, but thought he played a good game. He's got no offensive abilities, but he's tall as (frank) and plays a mean game, something we need in front of the net.
However, this is the best goaltending tandem the Oilers have had in YEARS, maybe even ever. How or why would you say that either would be traded? seriously man, they should be in the bottom category with Hall. Like meantioned, if Petry wasn't our best defensemen, our goalies would fair far better. |
