May be it's time for fans to stop expecting him to be the next Chara or Pronger and just figure they have a reasonably priced defenceman you can eat some minutes?

thats why I was confused of him being on the block rumours. Hes a good 2-3 guy to have, he wont kill your cap situation with his contract. Look around the league how hard it is to get a Top 4 guy at a decent price. You already have 1 locked up, keep him.

He wont win you the Norris but he wont be the low man on the totem pole once your other D prospects develop.

True, but these events are not all independent. They are all lumped together in the category 'Buffalo Sports' and therefore are cursed to be disappointments and let downs. Mostly due to me not believing in god and being punished for it.

He won't be like Chara or Pronger. Both are different types of players . as is Myers. Right now he IS our #1 Dman. He will only get better and better. If the team was winning and he potted some goals , there would be a bunch wanting to trade him for a bunch of first round pics.

My concern with trading Myers is that he should be in his prime right when this team is really ready to compete. Plus you need veteran guys. He'd be one of them at that point. He also has a relatively friendly cap hit.

That said, for the right guy, it would probably still be worth it.

What really bothers me is how fans of other teams look at the numbers and just assume that they take all the risk any trade involving him.

Even with names like Mantha and Nichushkin involved, it's silly to just assume the risk is one way.

While highly touted, neither of those guys has much of an nhl resume, a swap could just easily come back to haunt us as it would for them.

It appears that Murray feels any trade for Myers will not go down unless he gets a player he really wants. I don't think any move he makes will be a knee jerk reaction so if it does happen, it's because he legitimately wanted what we got in return.

I also actually like Strachan, who's 30 and getting paid dirt. I could see re-signing him. Keep Georges, let Mezaros and Beniot walk (off a plank, for all I care) and replace them with the 2 most qualified guys from Rochester and we might actually get better!
