on a good note, I am extremely excited to be going to the game on thursday. Although it ended badly, I really loved getting to watch Eric in his prime in Philly. He as an amazing talent. its just such a shame his career was really hampered with injuries. Still it was amazing having him here

Doubt any of us would be happy if they have unusable cap space tied up in buyouts when this team's real window opens in 3-4 years... especially if HRR growth continues to slow due to the CAD exchange rate.
- Tomahawk

Umberger costing $1.6m against the cap in 16-17 and $1.5m in 17-18 shouldn't be a big deal when he could easily be replaced by a $1m or less player

Could probably still suit up and give us a better 2nd line.

No offense to anyone who won Cups in the 70s or Lindbergh, anyone else, but outside of Parent, i just don't think there has ever been a more dominant Flyer

Woah. Jason Heyward got traded to the Cards for Shelby Miller.

I saw the quote from Lindros saying Renberg will be there. too bad Renberg wasn't here long enough or maybe we would be talking about all 3 going in. 296 points in 366 games isn't too shabby

Even more sadly, I don't necessarily believe it would automatically be worse, because at least Lindros is gonna win draws

I agree. I think Clarke was the best player this organization has ever had in the non goalie category overall but there is no question Lindros was the most talented in my opinion. He had a mix of skill and size. He could go through you or around you. I will never forget the first game I saw live (I split season tickets back then) and just was blown away

I'm going as well and I can't wait.

And I typically don't like going to games before New Year's, but I'm glad I got the opportunity to go to this one.

Yes, but I think the main problem is the defense being bad at clearing the zone, and moving the puck up ice.
- Feanor

Breakouts are a 5 man team game. All of the errors the Flyers make, including the flubbed passes, turnovers in the neutral zone, all contribut to Corsi numbers.

Truthfully, I would ask Edmonton about Teddy Purcell, who was the last person to consistently play well with Vinny
- AllInForFlyers

Don't really see him as an option. He's 29 and makes 4.5 million. That means we'd have to trade 4.5 million in salary back. Sadly, they're not taking Umberger. Nor would they want A Mac or any other contract we'd want to trade.

They're going to want Coburn, and I'm not trading him for Teddy Purcell. If they trade Coburn, it's gonna hurt for the next 2 years. So I'm thinking much longer term if I'm trading Coburn.

When he was on his game, no one was stopping him.

Under today's rules, Lindros would be an absolute terror.

Edmonton would absolutely take MacDonald in a trade. I don't think the Flyers are interested iin trading a quality defenseman for a player like Purcell.

Ok, I'll amend my statement somewhat. I think they would view any long-term contract of 3.5+ million unfavorably. Would they take A Mac for Purcell? Maybe. I agree with you...that would be a dumb trade for the Flyers.

Me too. Maybe Hexy can pull out the proverbial rabbit. But the Hartsy-Umberger trade put him in a bind. I agree with your earlier comment - they could carry one of Vinnie or Umby, but not both.

Any trade to provide help this year is likely at the expense of the future. My worst fear is that the Flyers continue to pull out these stretches of 6-7 games of playing just well enough to fool management into thinking they're a playoff team.

IMO, duration of his cap-hit on the books is more of a nuisance than the actual cap-hit itself. Even if you just buy out the last year of his deal, you'd have to live with an additional year of him being on the books. I'd prefer to completely wash my hands of his and VL's contracts, ASAP.

Remember when we all thought the Umberger for Hartnell trade was going to be close to a lateral transaction. I was right there thinking the defensive ability, coupled with the discipline, and maybe 60-65% of the offensive production would be near a wash.
Fun times indeed.
