You can't blame him though. He is trying to get the most out of the players he has. With guys like Vinny, Umberger, Akeson, Simmonds strugling he is trying to get guys going. This lineup just doesn't mesh well.

I can blame him, but I didn't expect this team to be among the top in the east.

Then what would be your plan.? Just keep throwing out the same lines and hope they finally play well together?

I am not the coach, whatever I do doesn't matter. At some point I'm sure he'll find a mix of lines that works.

Simmonds seemed to struggle in his games on LW. He didn't look completely comfortable. Schenn is red hot right now, and was helping drive the play of the Couturier line the last couple games.

The bigger trouble is getting little to nothing from the other lines.

It's a mystery to find a way to get multiple lines going.

Injuries to blueline have not helped. I guess Berube is just trying to find combinations that work. If he didn't do anything, we would be all over him.
The GM should do something to try to make up for the bonehead trade of Hartnell.

Let me see the last 2 " big trades" we have

JVR and Hartnell.. Gone

Luke and Umberger... Here

Not good at all!

What do you want the GM to do that makes up for it without giving up picks & what prospects we do have ?

You absolutely can blame him, to some extent. He's been dealt a poor hand, but he's not playing it especially well.

He has juggled lines, but he's refused to split his pairs up. Giroux has steadfastly remained with Voracek, Couturier with Read and Umberger with Lecavalier, when the latter has played.

He's got a poorly performing playmaker type on a 4th line with an energy player and a grinder. He's got two under performing veterans dragging down just about everyone who joins them. He should look at making real changes, not shuffling Schenn & Simmonds in the top 6 and Akeson and VandeVelde in the bottom 6.

Putting pairs together is how a lot of coaches set lines. You have a working pair and try to find that third guy to complement them. I understand the whole shuffling deck but I don't want to do it at the expense of taking away our only reliable offense.

The problem is Umberger and VL. They both drag down whatever line they're on. It's difficult to form combinations knowing that both of those guys are going to kill the confidence of anyone you put with them.

When does the answer become: they just don't have the talent to fill out 3 good lines and a solid 4th?

Yes, the trouble is, through the first 16 games, there's been one reliable pair. At some point performance has to matter more than a coach's stubborn resistance to split a pair of players up.

No, no, no...they can't do that. I've been told that's a good way for a coach to lose his players.

Yup, if it was up to me Umberger would be a healthy scratch and VLC would be on the 4th line at ES

They are the biggest problem, but not the only one. Read and Couturier have struggled, too. With Raffl out it's a bit dicey, but I feel Berube has to look long and hard at making real changes, not just shuffling left wingers around

I will give him credit for MDZ and Coliacovo. They were good pick ups.
I just want him to do his job and hopefully he can make a smart hockey trade.
This team lost the 2nd overall pick in return for a5/6 Dman. This team traded away a good character guy for a corpse.
I know we have to move on..but let's move on and make this team better. Fix it!
It's frustrating.. Usually " you have to give something.. To get something" we have gave something and received nothing in those two trades.

At GM meetings i talk to teams that need d help and look at what possibly Coburn could bring back. I know what he does for this team but i also know this team isn't a cup contender. If i could get a solid winger to play with Couturier line I would really have to think about making the deal. Would Dallas move Nichushkin for Coburn and 3rd rounder? I don't know but I think he could be an asset to bring in some value.
