I promise, I realize they don't have to do anything, and probably won't. That's totally fine. Hextall's not wrong in playing it like that.
But if it were me, just me personally, I'd go get a guy - AllInForFlyers
any suggestions?
id kill for another winger, but everyone is holding onto their own talent these days. |

I'd be fine with that. I'd try to see if they could flip a defenseman for one. In that case, a team like Edmonton seems like a good trade fit. |

So sad to see the Penguins hurting so bad. Maybe they'll eek into the playoffs. |

So they're saying Ghost will be back in 3-3.5 months. Thats the fastest ACL recovery time I've ever seen |

Personally, I'd ask Minnesota about Jason Zucker and, as JSaq said, I'd figure out how to make it happen with either a defenseman or a pick |

It'd be tricky, because he's young and a roster player already. But he's locked behind Parise and Vanek, and they're so thin defensively, I wouldn't be scared to offer Hagg and take my chances on one/two/all of Morin, Ghost and Sanheim making it
Zucker can really skate, and he has second-line ability. Think he could really help either Vinny or Couturier |

beat me to it.
i knew he was fast, but i didnt know if the ability was there in a large enough quantity or not. he could be a pretty good asset, especially since hes still young and im assuming cost controlled. |

Made the all-Rookie team for the AHL at age 20, with a 50-point season
He was up and down with Minnesota/Houston last year
I like him because he can REALLY move |

That's what I mean -- it doesn't have to be Hagg; I just threw out a name.
But that's what I'm talking about -- it's OK to move a good prospect if you get another one back in an area of need

It's good that he'll be able to come back this season. He'll have a healthy offseason to work on his game instead of rehabbing. |

oh yeah. i understand. in some ways its better than OK. its beneficial.
when people freak out about moving prospects or youth, i can understand it if youre continuously moving them for guys at the end of the rope. but if youre moving youth for youth, youre not really experiencing a net loss in that aspect, at least on paper.
i get the feeling that hagg seems to be a distant fourth in the defensive prospect ranks for you guys though? |

There's a difference, though -- Zucker has some pedigree, as a second-rounder. He's fully capable of doing what he's done thus far in his career, being a good player on a scoring line
I mean, yeah. There's risk. But there's risk in everything you do. There's risk in everything you don't do.
Never taking a risk doesn't mean you won't fail. It only means you didn't take a risk. Where managers go wrong is conflating "risk avoidance" with "long-term success." Those aren't the same thing. |

i agree. not taking a risk is still making a choice. and every choice has risks.

I think the biggest example of that in the modern era is Edmonton. Yes, it is entirely possible those players you drafted highly mature and evolve into a winner. It can certainly be argued that the highest of those picks aren't necessarily the problem.
And yet, you haven't made the playoffs since 2006. You are 14th in the conference again this year. And while some of your underlying metrics are improving, you still have glaring roster needs.
Is keeping all of those picks really helping you? Are you truly worse off if you move Nail Yakupov in a hockey trade, if you address another area of need?
I'd argue that patience for the sake of patience is just as detrimental as pulling the trigger too soon. At some point, though, you need to pull the trigger when you do have an area of need, and be done with it, and not be prone to crying about it if it doesn't work perfectly.
Because the odds are you're going to get fired anyway. Ken Hitchcock's been given the gate twice. Brian Burke's been drop-kicked. Ray Shero got curb-stomped.
You're gonna get gassed. Might as well make a move when you know you need to |
