The only way I'd willingly trade a pick would be if it's for a guy who is a long term solution.
Right now, despite Read asking to play RW, which occurred about a month ago, he's playing LW with Couturier and Simmonds. Schenn is playing with Giroux & Voracek. Bellemare can play all three forward spots, like Raffl & Read, so it's not as if there's no other options.
That said, I'd be all for moving for a good young winger who can carry the puck and make plays - Jsaquella
Bellemare to my knowledge has never played the left side for the Flyers. He's either played center or right wing. Of course there are options. Just look at how many line combinations Berube has tried that haven't worked. And when he was trying those options previously, he was criticized for it. Now he's being criticized for not trying those same options again? Makes a lot of sense
Bottom line is right now, with Raffl hurt, Berube has 3 LW's to use. Rinaldo, Umberger, and Schenn. And with the way that Umberger is playing. Two of those LW's are 4th line players. |

I'm definitely jealous of Buffalo's 5 picks in the first two rounds. If they are smart, they could turn that franchise around in a single draft. - Roytastic
That franchise is on the right path. Wow what a draft for buffalo fans coming up. |

I think the biggest example of that in the modern era is Edmonton. Yes, it is entirely possible those players you drafted highly mature and evolve into a winner. It can certainly be argued that the highest of those picks aren't necessarily the problem.
And yet, you haven't made the playoffs since 2006. You are 14th in the conference again this year. And while some of your underlying metrics are improving, you still have glaring roster needs.
Is keeping all of those picks really helping you? Are you truly worse off if you move Nail Yakupov in a hockey trade, if you address another area of need?
I'd argue that patience for the sake of patience is just as detrimental as pulling the trigger too soon. At some point, though, you need to pull the trigger when you do have an area of need, and be done with it, and not be prone to crying about it if it doesn't work perfectly.
Because the odds are you're going to get fired anyway. Ken Hitchcock's been given the gate twice. Brian Burke's been drop-kicked. Ray Shero got curb-stomped.
You're gonna get gassed. Might as well make a move when you know you need to - AllInForFlyers
The problem with trying to trade a player like Yakupov, is that you're not going to get the return you need to trade a 21 year old player who was the 1st overall pick in the draft, with the way he is playing right now. And the payoff for that pick, if there is one, is down the line.

yeah. everyone operates under a paralysis of analysis that theyre going to get burned and lose a deal. - stayinthefnnet
It's the 24/7 media cycle, with everyone able to comment on everything teams do
I have said this before, but I totally remember back when the NHL draft was conducted and you had to go through hell and back just to find out who was drafted after the first round. I remember when the trade deadline was sent over under "Transactions" and there wasn't a story or media coverage to be found outside of team markets until The Hockey News got to it
It's not like that now, and I do think it's changed how that league operates -- Google "Draft, Schmaft" sometime to see how the old-schoolers once viewed all this stuff |

yeah. ive heard the name, but im not quite sure just how good zucker actually is so this is hard for me to evaluate the prospective value. - stayinthefnnet
I like Zucker . He's got good speed, has shown decent hands and seems to be a smart player. I don't watch a ton of Wild games, but he's looked good in the ones I've seen. |

Eww.
Berube is not the second coming Scotty Bowman, but let's be honest.....this roster is a miscast group. If he gets these guys to the playoffs, as currently constituted, I'll bet that Chief gets an extension. - johndewar
