Just a bad trade they will have to live with. Don't see how Umberger could have been top 6 on this team. Hartnell yes..Umberger...Not
We don't know what was out there but IMO I think he could have got a better deal for Hartnell

- 3flyerkids

Agreed. I wouldn't be amazed if they bought him out before the deal ends. Whether that's summer of 2015 or 16, I'm not sure. Depends on how he finishes, what happens to cap, what happens with prospects..etc

Which is an average player. Seems you were trying to convince me otherwise...
- GOA88

So you can only judge a players "averageness" based on what they will do offensively? That seems to be what you are trying to convince us to believe.

Personally, for all the stupidity and country boys club they have had running for the last while, I wouldn't be opposed to a decrease in ticket sales the next 3-4 years.

They deserve to have it shoved up their ass. Its like Toronto, what real incentive is there to improve the way you build, if the revenue is never at risk.

One can dream. I doubt it though. I'm sure they had yesterday off, so it's def not a maintenance day. Guess we shall find out sooner or later.

Yes, it's terrible that the people who pay for seats have to be assuaged. They should continue to simply subsidize the team, I agree.

I will say, the kid is growing on me as strange as that is. He has no damn talent, but he tries 100% every shift. On a team that is a bunch of pussies in the physical department and doesn't really ever fight, he fills a gap.

So you're saying that the options are:

- no one should buy season tix
- the STHs should basically throw their money away for 3-4 years

That's the options?

Why exactly would a rebuilding process be throwing money away?

Remember when we all thought the Umberger for Hartnell trade was going to be close to a lateral transaction. I was right there thinking the defensive ability, coupled with the discipline, and maybe 60-65% of the offensive production would be near a wash.
Fun times indeed.

Read and Rinaldo have maintenance days, Luke Schenn skating.

MacDonald was out then quickly left the ice.

Who was trying to convince you of that? Laughton is projected as a 3rd line center type with some offensive ability.

I am in the minority....but I think he will be better then that....

True, but I think Ed and company know damn well revenue wont decrease if they continued running things as they have.

Im crazy though, I wanted there to be a massive decrease in revenue post lock-out to show we aren't a bunch of sheep.

Wasn't the entire team off yesterday?

Seems like MacDonald is rushing to come back. Probably another Coburn situation where they will announce he's out an additional 3 weeks.

From the perspective of a season ticket holder?

It sucks spending money to go to games when the team isn't competitive.

No, I haven't been stating what offense I think Couturier will eventually bring. I'm stating what offense despite how he is used, he is already bringing. And I would suggest taking a look at past NHL seasons, and see what 2nd and 3rd line NHL centers are scoring. And show me what 3rd line center is scoring at that level. 20 goals and 50-55 points is 2nd line center scoring numbers in the NHL.
- MJL

First of all, the 20/55 would be a top-end for a career season for Couts, in my opinion. I don't think he consistently hits those numbers. And that's the minimum I want from a 2nd line center. I really want more of a Briere's / 2010 season from a 2nd-line guy. 30-35 goals, 70+ points.

Cout's right now projects out to 40 points, which is right around last year. That is not nearly cutting for me for a 2nd line center. You seem to think his role is really holding him back. I think you are overemphasizing things like the effect of not enough offensive-zone starts. Does it hurt his offense? Sure. But would 10-15% more offensive-zone starts turn him into a 30 goal scorer? Doubt it.
