The only way you get a top 3 pick in this draft is to finish there. You are not trading for one. - ImThatGuy
Agreed, and I think we'll be there by seasons end. Im thinking Kylington at 4 will be on that list as well by draft day. |

You make it sound like this is so easy to do. Its not. it doesnt happen in a deep draft like this. The ises and blues picks are going to be low. There is no chance we move back anywhere close to the top 5 - MCGUIZZY
oh come on.. you can't tell me the oilers wouldn't rather have two 1st than just one.. lets give them the blues and isles picks for theirs, its a win win.. maybe we should throw in card or funk to sweeten the pot |

I'm of the same opinion.
Bufffan19 and I thought of this a while back but as nationalistic and borderline racist as it sounds I've been using the criteria of "could player x ever make team canada's core((frank) kunitz) if he were canadian?"
If you look at that team's core, everyone of them were considered a franchise player not just by their teams respective fans but league wide. So far I don't see anyone in our organization who would ever have a shot at that, but the top 2 guys in this draft definitely would. - Sabresfan-365
Yep. Everyone talks about how well Grigorenko and Armia are doing in the AHL. They are doin OK. They are not tearing it up by any means. Vanek scored over 40 goals in his first AHL season and stepped right into the NHL. I dont really see that in either of them. Hopefully im wrong |

This has always been my stance. If you finish outside of the top 3 picks, trade all of them for established players.
I would target 2 wingers and a d-man.

If the Sabres finish with 4 or5. I offer that pick straight up for one of Hall/RNH.
It allows Edm to draft a top d-man and it gets Buffalo a top line forward they need.
This is where EDM fans tell me they dont need defense |

I am not saying it's easy. It's possible. You have picks, prospects and players to deal. Tim Murray seems to have a plan and he seems like a wheeler and dealer. It would suck to miss out on McDavid or Eichel. I also don't think this team is as bad as people think. They are keeping the kids in Roch to keep the pick in the bottom ten of the draft. They are letting the young players get hungry to make it. When they unleash this team in a year or two it will be incredible to watch. |

They don't need draft picks though. That fan base would go insane.
If there is any team that would trade a top 2 pick it's them IMO |

EDM finishes with 1 or 2 and draft McEichel. Then get 4 to draft Kylington.
Too many top end forwards.
It seems doable, to me at least. |

Dont get me wrong. I think they have a chance to be good players in the NHL. My point was I believe they are complimentary pieces and we are still missing a stud. They absolutely need to be good at that level. |

They've been very good from what i've read/seen. Armia seems to play a decent two way game as well. Neither will score 40 goals like vanek did but they could put up similar point totals by the end of the season.
But even all that doesn't change the fact that we still need someone better. |

Yes. I should rephrase. They have been good. I follow them as close as anybody. I just look back to when Vanek, Roy, Pommers were in the AHL and they were a force. I really like Armia. i have had high hopes for him since he was drafted and I think he has the greatest chance to be a very good player in the NHL. I still stand by my opinion tho |

True, but will it be enough? It's easy to dream up hypotheticals that involve moving all three 1sts for a franchise player but the odds are unfavourable. |

Was he ever projected to be that good though? I think he can be a 1st line centre, the same way guys like Koivu and Zajac, I still think we need someone better. |

Alot of "ifs" and alot of "potential" but no sure things at the moment. This is what makes me nervous and why I believe a top two this year is so crucial |

We will just disagree on it because I believe it could happen. I think outside of the top three picks, the Sabres might have the pieces to get back in there. Starting next year, you need roster spots for the younger players. People in the organization will be moved.
Still a ton of games to be played. I still think Buffalo finishes in the bottom 2. They aren't talented enough. If by some divine intervention they continue to win, then so be it. They still have 3 picks in the first round to add to the top rated prospect pool. |

It isn't all about one guy though.
IMO, if we were to land McDavid, you could etch the Sabres name into the cup with the date TBD. Because him plus our youth would be ridiculous.
Although it's not an end all be all. We still potentially have 3 really good centers
Every year wingers like Bobby Ryan or James Neal are moved.
Maybe this year we can land a Jeff Skinner or Evander Kane
I don't think we are screwed without McEichel |
