back to back games are never easy, and with guys like Mitchell, McGinn, and a lesser Extent Everberg and Winchester (maybe)...that would be a heck of a lot better Bottom 6 that could compete to help those tough back to backs. Vincour, Sgarbossa, and Holden in your bottom 6 isn't scaring anyone. Heck Stuart being back would be an upgrade over Holden or Guenin.

This season is looking lost with the amount of injuries we have had and just the poor play of too many guys who over achieved last year.

Terrible effort, second half of a back to back or not.

Any ideas on who we are targeting this summer on the backend?

no clue, but I think first order of business is getting ROR locked up or dealing with that situation this summer. Once they know the money and years required for him, they can make the necessary adjustements to make it work financially and fill out the roster.

If they cant get him under contract, look at trying to move him for a 3rd line 2nd line tweener C and a promising 2nd pairing LHS dman prospect.

I took a shot at what we could do in a deal with Montreal and signing a top 9 Forward with a Top 4 Dman (maybe Frolik and Staal are not the answer but more assigning the Cap hits to guys)

FORWARDS
Alex Tanguay ($3.500m) / Matt Duchene ($6.000m) / Jarome Iginla ($5.333m)
Gabriel Landeskog ($5.571m) / Nathan MacKinnon ($0.925m) /Michael Frolik ($4.500m)
Jamie McGinn ($2.950m) / Lars Eller ($3.500m) / Dennis Everberg ($0.613m)
Cody McLeod ($1.333m) / John Mitchell ($1.800m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m)
Jesse Winchester ($0.900m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Marc Staal ($5.500m) / Erik Johnson ($3.750m)
Jarred Tinordi ($2.000m) / Tyson Barrie ($2.600m)

I would like to do something with Berra and Holden to be off the roster, so if moves could be made to do that, even better

I would be ok adding Staal. He and Johnson together would give teams fits.

I hate to say it but we need to trade O'Reilly. His hard bargains have hurt the team twice. Negotiations like that sour an atmosphere in a locker room.

Whats with Mackinnon this year? Meaning not producing like last years pace?

Also, think Staal would choose his brothers over any other place 1st....

thanks.........

MacKinnon is having a rough go right now, to me it looks like he is trying too hard and trying too much. He enters the zone with so much speed and he seems to be over thinking it by always looking for his line mates vs what made him so dangerous last year just being the shooter on the line.

He is getting better at face-offs and more defensively responsibly, that part of his game has improved from last year (my theory is he is trying to replace stastny in his mind instead of doing what he does best)

OH I know Staal is a long shot, but as I mentioned was it was more assigning the cap hits of around 5.5m. You won't be signing a Top 4 UFA Dman for anything really less than that. Boychuk would be a nice pick up as well but I think he stays out East if its resigning with you guys or taking a huge discount to go back to Boston. Sekera would be a sneaky good singing too

For the under 30 guys Franson, Petry, Green are all RHS, we need LHS

just have to be smart with the contracts this summer. When we have potentially ROR if he sticks around, as well as EJ, Barrie, and Mack all needing new contracts in the same year. Cant get too crazy in the UFA market.

Thats why I think ROR might be traded just so they can get those 3 under contract long term and fill other roster holes by moving his cap hit around

I have to take a break paying top dollar to see this team every time they roll through Winnipeg. It's almost always the 2nd night of a back-to-back coming out of Alberta or Minnesota and they look like a bunch of lost puppies out there. What an embarassing game to be at.

Lets just tank. Gonna be tough to make the playoffs the way we're playing and we have a bunch of good teams to jump over. Its somewhat disappointing that there are other teams that are so much worse.

With injuries plus an atrocious D we aren't going anywhere this year anyway. Tank down and try to get Eichel, he is a better fit for us than McDavid. Rebuild the D in the offseason. I would rather we called up the young D guys to give them a taste or a trial by fire. I assume Briere is gone at the end of the year. Buyout Berra because he is awful. Try to move Talbot and some of the D at the deadline for something. Our forward group is talented but a mess and our D is a laughing stock. Our only strong point is between the pipes.

Tanguay is far and away or best player, and while I like him, that is not a good thing.

I think we can be bottom 5. It's sad because it didn't have to be this way. They could have been 6-8 club in the West. But oh well, miss the playoffs, learna few lessons, correct the mistakes that don't cost too much, maybe fleece a bubble team into taking Iggy or Stuart (hey you neve know) grab a good young talent, lock up ROR. There is hope.

EDIT: sorry had to lol at Eichel eing a better fit than McDavid. Fit is meaningless when we are talking generational can't miss talent. That being said I'd be happy with either of them.

If you can guarantee O'Reilly would re-sign with us for $6M/per, fine then
