i think what makes the hit as bad as it was is that when the contact is made, Pacioretty's momentum, albeit slight, is moving towards Stoner. he's not standing completely still. i think that's what made the collision so violent. |

Not sure it would have changed things much. Maybe if he braced himself, a normal hit would not have make him faceplant in the board ... but a 2-handed push like that from a big body ? Most probably same results.
