Perron ...poor oilers, he was one of their better forwards and should be part of the solution

While I'm not worried about Kunitz, I do think Kunitz clearly hasn't been himself this season. He hasn't been as disruptive and he hasn't been as creative. Some of that I think is the system. Some of it is Crosby and his forcing of things lately in an attempt to slumpbust. A lot of it I believe had/has to do with the foot.

The eye test reveals a player who is still producing but isn't as dynamic as he can be expected to be.

Fine with trading the 1st round pick for Perron, especially since he has another year left on his contract, plus he's young. He could be a part of the future (next 5 years). Not giving up any prospects was huge.

26 years old. Could sign an extension next year if he does well and fits. Not a bad deal at all.

Complete deal has Pitt sending a 1st in 2015 and Rob Klinkhammer to the Oilers for David Perron.

Haha. I'm hoping so. GM JR has found a lot of nice pieces for this club. Hopefully this one takes off.

Here I was going to comment about Kunitz not being a problem and then I found out there is bigger news.

I like that Perron is signed past this season and isn't a rental. Plus he isn't OLD.

I liked Klink but when he got scratched so quickly it was obvious that MJ didn't for some reason.

Holy (frank)ing hell am I on a diffrent planet right now!!! No prospects going the other way? Now we have our top 6 set AND resigning Hoff isn't that huge of an issue anymore!!!

Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Bennett
Comeau-Sutter-Downie
Klinkhammer-Goc-Adams/Rust

Letang-Maatta
Martin-Ehrhoff
Despres-Scuderi/Pouliot/Harrington/Dumoulin/Bortuzzo

Pascal could be back in time for the playoffs too which would knock Adams/Rust out of the lineup. Holy hell! And it doesn't (frank) with next year's D. If we don't resign Hoff we've got

Letang-Maatta
Despres-Pouliot
Harrington-Dumoulin/Bortuzzo

With Hoff that's even better! (frank) yeah Pens! We are set for the final years of Captain Sid and Geno Machino's prime!

EDIT: Oh. Klink's going the other way? Oh well. Who the (frank) cares. Remake the fourth line as you will.

Your issue last year was a bad 4th line. That still seems to be an issue. Obviously this trade is a win in every way imaginable but there's more work to be done.

Our third was really no good either. The additions of Comeau and Downie really helped in that department. I agree that we could trade for a Stempniak type player for the third line and bump one of either Downie or Comeau down and that would be huge. I still believe in Goc as a very good fourth line center. If we can get Downie or Comeau down there to help him out we're set.
