Not sure if anybody read or heard on the news about that 90 yr old barber who was struck and killed by a drunk driver out east? That was my barber. I have been going to him for over 30 years. Terrible. Guy was a WWII vet had two open heart surgeries and just beat pancreatic cancer and he gets killed by a drunk driver 90 yrs old and still showed up for work everyday. You will be missed George

It looks like Stashu may get his wish. The Sabres may have a good shot at the first pick. Speaking from experience - it sucks being a fan in that position!

Thankfully the Isles finally turned the corner. Let's hope Buffalo's other 1st round pick is a 30th!

He beat pancreatic cancer and then gets killed that way?? That's just not fair.
That's (frank)ing awful. Sorry for your loss, Vukota.

Sad story. He was in the road to retrieve one of his cats who had been hit by a car. Nice article but a very sad situation.

Here's another consideration in that regard: the team that plays in Newark. I have a feeling teams are going to start cherry picking that carcass soon- Jagr, Cammalleri, Handzus, Havlat...maybe even Elias, though that would be more surprising. I'm not sure if they've signed the goalie, but if not, he may go as well. That team might not have a prayer for the last two months of the season- at least it wouldn't if I was running it. Time to rebuild that ship, in my opinion- the way we were rebuilt for the last nine years. Might as well start with Eichel or McDavid....

Handzus is playing in Slovakia and Cammalleri just signed a 5 year contract, so he's not going anywhere. Elias will retire a Devil.

Big fat pass on Jagr and perpetual injury machine Havlat.

In the offseason I didn’t want to put Lee on the first line as a rookie until he earned it by working his way up. I think he’s done that now and it’s time to put him there. Even his D has been better. I just think about the 2-3 times a game Tavares makes a move along the boards and then wheels the puck in front only to see it fly through the crease because no one’s there. It’s like he’s expecting Moulson or Vanek to get the tap-in. With Lee on that line, those are probably about as close as you’ll get to automatic goals.

Looking forward with the Isles...
Their needs/ wants for the remainder this year is probably a depth defensemen. I don't think they make a splash for a top line W as there really isn't anyone out there worth the price or what Isles can afford to give up. When teams are sellers, they usually want picks, not a Bailey and his contract or a Grabner. The only chips the Isles have to move this year are their prospect D men which I don't think they'll move.

This years draft consists of 2 - 3rd round picks, a 4th, a 6th, and 2 -7th rounders. Not a lot to throw around for this year, unless you're looking to plug holes. Off season they have both G locked and Poulin as an RFA.
D they have Boychuk, Viz and Carkner as UFA and Leddy, Hickey, Donovan, Czuczman and Ness as RFA.
F they have Boulton and McDonald as UFA and Lee, Nelson and Conacher as RFA.

Pipeline they have 2 or 3 good D prospects (I don't know much about Pelech, Mayfield or Leduc, I figured one of them is regarded as a good prospect.)
Offensively, they really only have Dal Colle and Ho-Sang at the moment. Others seem to be AHL type guys.

The FWDS and G will most likely be close to the same next year. The only real question mark moving forward is 1/2 the D core.

I know I'm completely off topic and this is usually a summer conversation but I'm bored and was talking to someone about the draft and this came about.

I think I’d stand pat this season unless they come across an absolute steal. They have some depth at D…they insist on Strait and Donovan as the extras, but I think any of Reinhart, Czuczman, Mayfield or maybe even Pulock when he’s healthy could take sheltered minutes as a bottom-pair d-man in case of injuries. If anything, I’d look into a backup goalie, but only if they could get one for very cheap…like a lower-level prospect (Persson and Conacher…probably wouldn’t be any takers, and in that case, I’d just stick with Johnson).

How could anyone read that correctly? Holy hell is that confusing.

They obviously have no first from Vanek.

We don't have our second from Vanek. We no longer have Philly's 2nd (from MacDonald) from the Boychuk trade.

We have our 3rd*** and we gained a 3rd round pick from swapping 14/15 3rds with FLA at last years draft.

We have our 4th

5th went to SJS for Boyle rights

We have our 6th

We have our 7th and also TBL 7th for swapping 14/15 7th rounders at last years draft.

So 3, 3, 4, 6, 7, 7

Sorry, you're right. Looking back at what I found, they just kept repeating the same trades in those rounds.

i dont think a backup is really necessary...if chad johnson (or fill-in-the-blank-backup-goalie) is playing during the playoffs, we are in big trouble

We'll take the summah to put togethah and drah up some new umbrellahhh offense schemes and teach ouhh guys to crash theih own goal some mohe so we can build a wall in front of ouhh Goalie."

I don't want grabner on the first line. He just doesn't seem to fit with Tavares and having Okposo with Lee gives JT two big bodies who can get the puck out of the corner and go to the front of the net. Grabner stays on the outside.
