Shea Weber is a better proven elite NHL player than Connor McDavid, who has yet to prove he can succeed at the pro level. - jmatchett383
Also pushing 30. Would be a terrible trade in the long run. |

Hypothetically say the Flyers won the draft lottery, and didn't take McDavid. What would the reaction be? - PLindbergh31
A lot of disbelief and anger... but 10 years from now I won't be surprised if Eichel is just as good as McDavid. |

And if McDavid turns into Alex Daigle or Patrick Stefan? Or even Lecalvalier, Thornton, or Yakupov? |

That will not matter at all. McDavid is generally considered THAT good. You could get Weber plus for him. - TheGreat28
Then the Flyers should. |

You could get a better return than Weber. This team isn't one D man away from greatness anyway. |

You would think it's a no brainer. - PLindbergh31
All kidding aside, having Giroux in hand kind of changes the usual calculus a bit.
Maybe I'd take McD, see how he develops, and then try like heck to move G for a huge return in the near future while he's still in his prime. Recchi -> Rico/Leclair kind of deal.
I'd be totally fine with them taking Eichel (him + G would be a stellar tandem, IMO)... but I'd really explore trading down to #2 if that were the case. Try to get some more assets, etc.
But yeah, there would be absolute pandemonium amongst the laymen. |

What if Nashville offered you Weber, Forsberg, Fiala/Ellis/similar prospect or younger vet, and their #1?
Long term it might favor Nashville, but considering G's age it might be a better package for now. |

Guy running away with the Calder Trophy
Top-flight prospect
First round pick
or
Top undrafted prospect who has yet to play 1 professional game

I wouldn't trade Giroux unless it was a massive overpayment. I'd rather trade Voracek and keep the 1-2-3 punch of Giroux-McDavid-Couturier. Voracek could bring back a bunch of depth/high end prospect/picks |

Wouldn't happen. Nashville is doing great for themselves. Why would they make a move like that?
OEL, Domi, top 12 pick is slightly more realistic. |

Not if you're Nashville though. McDavid can walk after 7 years (likely age 25). Can Nashville put together a good enough team without much on ice talent, few high end prospects, no first round pick and limited financial resources in 7 years?
Edit: This is assuming McDavid becomes an all world talent like those guys mentioned above. |

Why do I have a feeling the Pens have an agenda tonight.
Pens recall AHL tough guy Farnham prior to Flyers tilt

Pittsburgh made an intriguing roster move on Wednesday morning, prior to its Rivalry Night matchup against Philadelphia — Bobby Farnham, the penalty minutes leader with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, has been recalled and appears ready to suit up this evening.
Bobby Farnham, freshly recalled here to Philly: ‘You watch so many Penguins-Flyers games, you know what’s expected.’ Yep
— Dejan Kovacevic (@Dejan_Kovacevic) January 20, 2015
I suggested to Bobby Farnham that he was made for Penguins-Flyers. He did not disagree. — Josh Yohe (@JoshYohe_Trib) January 20, 2015
Farnham, 25, has fought 10 times this season — seven in the American League and three in 10 games with Pittsburgh. The Brown University product has made a name for himself over the last two AHL campaigns as an undersized (5-foot-10, 180 pounds) yet willing combatant; in ’12-13, he fought 21 times while racking up a staggering 274 PIM and last year, Farnham fought 12 times while taking 166 penalty minutes.
In a recent USA Today profile, Farnham explained how he approaches things at the NHL level:
Farnham proudly notes that he’s started turning down fights, something he never did in his first year with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, when he got in 25 fights and would go with just about anyone who glanced in his general direction. He fought big guys even, guys way out of his weight class, guys who’d put him down in seconds. He’s stopped that.
“I’ve earned that right. I tell guys to [expletive] themselves now. I’ll say that, too. I’ll say: ‘Go [expletive] yourself.’ I can do that now.” He pauses, then laughs.
“Well, I can do that down in the AHL. I can’t do that up here.”
Bobby Farnham is mic’d in the penalty box. You’ll probably want to see this. https://t.co/aoTBPySjdx
