Omfg. That's an embarrassment to hockey. The jerseys are beyond hideous but add the socks which look like part of a Halloween costume and I'd say worst ever.

it has. but really, its been a perfect storm for him.

you can tell his not just a byproduct of boston right now. he is getting to be the horse, and he is answering the bell. and the team itself has experienced a good step forward, which only makes his star shine a little brighter.

definitely a good defenseman. and i think theyve all seen their stock go up lately haha

31-yo, not particularly mobile... don't see him aging well.

(and what's w/ the uncanny resemblance to Chris Drury??)

Defenseman are at a premium maybe more so than I've seen in my life. Hope we get him signed before the deadline. Guy has been incredible for us. Exactly what this team was lacking.

maybe a change of scenery/trotz's system is helping him out a good bit. but he really started to lose it in his last season with the pens. and there is 0 way he lives up the term.

I think defenseman tend to get blamed for a lot of things when a team falters, and doesn't meet expectations. Orpik is a good defenseman and always has been. He's only 33. I don't see why he can't remain an effective player for another 3 seasons.

Nothing wrong with Boychuck's mobility. At 31, he could play another 6-8 years.

yeah i think resigning him would be a high priority for the isles. even if it costs an extra mil or a year of term. he really has been just what they ordered, along with halak.

i really have to hand it to the isles the way they put that team together. used multiple different avenues of player acquisition. really identified areas of need and put it together. knew going into this year theyd be good, but i didnt think from top to bottom they would be this solid. really fun to watch too.

I'd be surprised if he's playing as well as he is now in a year or two, but Trotz is a very capable coach. He knows how to get the most out of his defensemen, and his impact is probably a bigger reason for the Capitals success this year than anything.

Holtby's also been a monster for them. Looking at what they did this summer, it really could have gone either way

I agree that Trotz has done a nice job there, but it's still about players, and Orpik has done a great job there as a leader, and on the ice. Orpik is a big part of that Caps team.

i loved and respected orpik a ton. he was a soldier through that franchise when they really didnt have any. im not saying he deserves to be out of the league, but he really started to get beat big time. most importantly, he had great difficulty clearing the net. good on him for getting that much money. and even better on him for having a good season so far. but im glad that term isnt on the pens plate.

Declare a 34-yo's new 5-year contract a win after 40-games... yeah, sounds about right.

Id think signing him is priority number one. Its been a combination of acquiring those guys in the offseason and the kids starting to gel. Having guys that have won it obviously has helped that along. Having a legit goaltender has been huge for us. Snow may add a back up if Johnson doesnt get his act togather bfr the deadline.

he does seem to have really helped the team shift mentally, and for that, he brings a good bit of value.

and i know every defenseman will make some mistakes. but if that puck hadnt been bouncing so sharply to vinny and he could have potted it, it would have been a very bad goal, largely pinned to orpik. vinny, who isnt a spring chicken himself, was planted quite comfortably in prime location in the waning seconds. a defensive defenseman simply needs to be better there
