This hockey blog is slowly turning more music based every day. And that is really, really lame.
And yes, I get the irony, the whining coming from a guy with a band based username. - IRON.MAIDEN
Well buddy, you just tell me what to write, and I'll give you exactly what you want. It's the allstar break, it's not like theres a lot going on...... But if you don't like the music theme, just wait until March: if I have to be subjected to 8 months of losing, the trades better be happening or else I'm going with nothing but Lethal Weapon themed blogs for the whole month. |

REM is ok but ranking them with the Beatles or the Stones is just retarded. I would pick at least 1000 albums before I would ever include a REM album in a "top" list - Horseguts

If you like Prog, check out TesseracT, in particular the Altered state album - lumlums
Prog? I like Rush and VoiVod and that's about it. I like my rock greasy and dirty. |

You go from mentioning The Smiths, which made me love you, to saying Use Your Illusion is better than The White Album?
What the hell is wrong with you? |

You're giving me the choice?
Ok, well seeing s you find the ASG to be a big joke, I'd like to know your opinion on a completely revamped format for the entire event.
1. new voting system
2. new skills competition events
3. incentives to winning the ASG
Or, I'd like a blog about the progress of a few of these prospects in the Yotes farm system, and where they project to be come the start of next season. I'm talking about guys not named DOMI.
Hell, I'd even rather read about why you got into blogging, or even some back story of your life in relation to the game of hockey, what specific moment captivated your attention in terms of you being a hockey fan, etc.
There are many ways to engage readers aside from doing a to 10 Katy Perry all time album list.
I get that blogging every day is a tough gig. explains why I quit after doing it for 2 days on another site. But sometimes, the guy I find to be interesting, really takes the easy way out, and that isn't what seperates you from the rest of the robots on here. |

I wonder if a way to keep it fresh would be to allow the coaching staff of the teams to do the draft every once in a while. It would be interesting to see how they themselves would build an all-star team. Maybe wouldn't be as fun though I suppose.
Another way would be to take the fan thing to a new level and allow some "lucky winners" or a group of Wish Foundation Kids do the draft like they would in the games. I can't imagine how much thayt would mean to some kids if they could sit beside Toews and Doughty while picking their favorite players to play on THEIR all star team. |

Well, everyone doesn't have have the same opinion and I am bored of the Beatles - I don't know what else to tell you. Its a personal list of my top ten favorites not exactly a list of the all-time best..........if you polled a million music critics, not too many of them would rank GNR ahead of the Beatles, I know that, but for me, I find UYI 100x more interesting and I would rather listed to "pretty tied up" or "Coma" a million times on repeat than every have to sit through obli-dee one more time.
I will say this though "Honey Pie" is perhaps the greatest song every written.

Did everyone on here grow up in the 70s?
Picking the stones or the Beatles is like picking Gretzky for your favourite hockey player of all time…redundant and boring. Although maybe folks are trying to be objective and pick what they consider the 'most famous' not necessarily the 'best' of all time?
All time Gotta go:
Alexisonfire - Damn you Dallas Green!
David Bazan/Pedro the Lion
AFI - first 5 albums are shockingly good…not so much anymore.
Rage - don't always want to listen to them, but they are amazing.
NIN - Some of my picks are obscure, but any list that doesn't have NIN is out to lunch
The Refused
Recent interests:
Elliot Smith - In the softer category he's gold
Hayden - dark and awesome
Hmmm, I guess that's what's difficult about this exercise is that there is so much good music out there that you can't even begin to give it the credit it deserves. Given the nature of your list Tanner, I expect and would endorse seeing some Arcade Fire appearing somewhere.

Hey, I appreciate the input. And I do have plans to talk a lot about the prospects as the season progresses. As for your allstar ideas, that's not for me. I don't care how they vote the players and I certainly don't think they need to make the game worth somethign - it already is: its fun for kids and makes the league some cash. Good times!
Again, thanks for the ideas. I'm probably still gonna have to talk alot about music though cause hockey and music are pretty much all I know about - except literature, but I'm thinking Mobey Richard themed blogs would be a little hard to take. |

You know, I gotta hand it to you for bringing up Elliot Smith, he is a fantastic talent and really underrated. I also own all but one of Hayden's records and he's a favorite of mine too. I own the complete NIN library and the Fragile is probably my favorite of theirs. Don't really know the other bands - like, I know of them, but never really listened to AFI or Alexis (although I do hate City and Colour).
Arcade Fire is one of my all time favorite bands. I met Win Butler once, I have seen them in concert and Funeral was one of the albums I had to cut to make it down to ten. And honestly, if I did the list on Wednesday and not Tuesday, it might have found its way on there. But what to cut? |

I didn't grow up listening to a ton of music (for the record I'm 31 so I wasn't really 'into' music until my early teens in the 90s), as a result I find myself discovering bands that I missed because I wasn't listening to the radio or hitting up shows. Elliot Smith is fantastic and I recently saw Heyden live in a small pub in Gatineau, so so good. It was his first solo show in 7 years. Guy is awesome live. So genuine and hilarious. Going to check him out in February with Dan Mangan. I remember hearing about Arcade Fire from buddies in Vancouver before they were big. They were this eclectic group of musicians whose makeup seemingly changed every show.
Alexisonfire's first two albums are quite possibly the two best hardcore albums of all time in my opinion. They had amazing talent, and such a unique sound with Green providing his harmonies and George bringing one of the better screaming voices in the business. A lot of metal heads probably hate on that pick, but they were so tight and an amazing live show. AFI has one of the most unique sounds in punk, but they have really shifted away from that punk/hardcore feel towards something else entirely. Not a huge fan anymore but they will forever have legacy props from me.
Thanks for the list Tanner. Hope the Yotes manage to figure it out and dump a few of their vets. I was one of the few folks who thought your statements around the Coyotes D and how good they were going to was spot on. I'd still take their D over the Kings, Blackhawks and Blues, at least long term. Those other teams have so many other parts that contribute to their defensive game that its barely fair to compare them. |

To each their own. I was in highschool in the early 90's, and I never did and still don't have much appreciation for Nine Inch Nails.
Elliot Smith was a wonderful song writer, so props for that mention.
I'm too old and anti social to keep up with modern underground music, but that's not to say there isnt a tonne of great stuff out there. You know where I find music? I Shazam the sh!t out of great songs I hear on TV shows like Walking Dead, Breaking bad, etc, as well as socially conscious Documentaries and the odd movie. |
