I'm not going to ever use "what the fans think" in any debate or discussion on any player. It's simply a weak argument.
- MJL

I wasnt using "what the fans think" to support my "argument". Just a comment. I'm not here to say Carle was awful. He was good, nowhere near elite. EVER. On most teams he can be a 2nd pair guy. On a contender..... 3rd pair. He moves the puck well and is adequate at defense. He has no business defending top offensive units. Much like Amac. Thats my opinion and as much as you will hate to hear this.... Your opinion is no better than mine. If it is....I hope you get a job as an NHL scout somewhere.

Not the case. In many instances, Carle was better statistically without Pronger. It's a myth that Pronger made Carle. A lot of fans didn't like him when he was here either. What a few fans think is irrelevant.

I think Carle would be no worse than a #4 on any team and 2/3 on most, but you're not far off. He is certainly not a #1 or an elite Dman by any stretch of the imagination.

Does anyone know of a site where I could find out how many points baby Schenn has scored playing wing vs playing center?

I have no idea, but since he's played very little center at ES this year, I'm guessing nearly all came at LW or on the pp.

What did you post to support your argument? Everyone is certainly entitled to an opinion. The difference between our opinions is that I made a statement giving the opinion that Carle for a period of time was an elite defenseman in the NHL at ES. In another post, I posted the reasons why I labeled his as such, due to his all around play, elite scoring level at ES, and leading the entire league in plus games one season.
The extent of your opinion and replies back were smiley faces, ask what the TB fans think, and stating that he was nowhere near elite, EVER!

I do like the new Hockeybuzz defenseman rating system that has developed though. Well he's a 2nd pair defenseman, but not on a good team. And it's funny how in some viewpoints, MacDonald has gone from being a 3rd pair defenseman, to an average 2nd pair defenseman who wouldn't be a 2nd pair defenseman on a good team.

Carle was certainly not overall an elite defenseman when he was here, in regards to who the top defenseman were in the league at the time. But in one facet of the game, even strength, he certainly was elite in that area for a period of time.

Oh well, Im just dealing with the "Schenn is a bust and needs to move back to center or he is useless" crowd. I don't know how I got drawn in to the argument. But I got pissed when the guy said that my examples of Giroux and Gagne switching out of junior was irrelevant even if they ended up being "serviceable" (his words) after switching. Then he gave me an example of Lecavalier, telling me he is useless at wing.

I said, VLC is 34 years old and has been a center in the NHL about as long as Schenn has been playing competitive hockey. Little different scenario I think.

Like I said, I don't know why I even bothered.

Schenn teases with his ability at times. He's had stretches of games where he's a terror on the boards, getting offensive chances, and playing strong hockey. Then there is long stretches where he disappears. Maybe the reality is somewhere in the middle. I'm with you in thinking that he doesn't have to be at Center. I think he's better suited to the wing because of his skill set.

Yeah well, he is on pace to set a career high in points this season playing wing. I think the debate is over.
