Bill Meltzer: Flyers Shoot Down Jets, 5-2 - bmeltzer
Good win against a quality team. Mason was solid early, outstanding late. Simmonds had a monster game. Top to bottom, it was a good game. Only guys that stood out negatively to me were MacDonald(bad clear led to a Jets goal) & Carlo Colaiacovo, who seemed to be fighting it all night.
MacDonald was fine after the turnover, too. |

Amazing what a difference it makes to win faceoffs.
3 straight and we're getting healthy.
Great game for Bryz tonight in San Jose |

Is there really a difference? 4-3 since Coburn and Grossman have been out. |

Jesus watching a replay of the game B Schenns face bounced off the ice like a basketball after hitting Buff Why waste the effort laying a body on that guy he wins every time. |

Simmonds has had two great games in a row since Richards was waived..Coincidence? LOL
Playing well of late and have the Leafs next.. what a hot mess they are..Bernier gives one up from the other blueline and they lose to Arizona who had lost 7 straight.. yikes.. A good effort on Saturday and it should be 4 in a row.
Then we can welcome our saviour Timonen back!! It'll be interesting to see the improvement on our PK.
Finally, poor MAtt Read.. can't buy a goal at all.. Zero confidence.. he always had good hands IMO and this year must be hell for him. |

I am sure that you have all seen it but Bernier gives one up from the other blueline?? That's just wild. That team will be gutted soon. |

I'd like to see Manning with MacDonald. MacDonald needs a more physical partner I think.
Also I love the way Del Zotto is playing. His confidence seems sky high right now. With his play and Schultz maybe you move Coburn and Grossmann at the deadline. |

Del Zotto was outstanding last night. When that kid plays the right way, he's very effective.

And that's why I want us to keep him. If someone else on the D corps has to go to slot Timo in, so be it.. MDZ is still young and hopefully he can find consistency. |

Flyers had what, 6 quality odd man rushes last night. They went on an ofer on odd man rushes. Poor Matt Read, is set up with a gimme from Streit, and he shoots it low and back into the goalie, when he has the entire net to shoot at. If he just waited a hair and looked up, he would have seen all the room he had. |

Honestly, I dont see a difference with the defense. If anything.... they've been better. Hard to gauge though cause the forwards are playing better also. To me, Coburn has been a non-factor this season. Grossmann on the other hand... I feel like we miss his net presence sometimes. |

It's a lot more fun to watch them now than it was before. Still got a deep hole to climb out of. |

MDZ is capable of being a good defenseman. He had a couple few really solid years in NY, and just seemed to lose confidence in his game. He's not really a guy who had a one good year, one bad year pattern. |

MDZ and Schultz have been our best D-men all season. I still dont get why MDZ was scratched all that time. |

I think he was scratched because he was trying to do too much. He was carrying puck a lot. Its not that they don't want him to be agressive offensivly but they want him to join with the rush. Not be the one leading it out. Not sure if I explained it with the right words. |

I don't know why he was kept out for so long, but he was initially scratched for basically gambling too much offensively. If Del Zotto continues to play as well as he has lately, he is in no danger of being scratched again.

Brayden Schenn made some really nice plays last night. I definitely see the potential for him to be a 30 goal - 60+ pt player. Gotta hang on to him and Couts. It will pay off eventually. |

Who knows? His play had dipped a bit prior to the benching, but he was also playing through a LBI. |

Overall, I think he has proved to be a valuable piece for the rebuild on the backend. |

He was. He has been physical. Joining the rush at the right time. Getting shots on net. Was a nice low risk move by Hextall. Same with Schultz. Also I like having another faceoff guy like White. He seemed to be more acetive last night. I think he is getting more comfortable now after missing so much time. |

If they were looking for a replacement for Rinaldo....they found him. He actually isnt that bad of a player. |
