I keep reading/hearing that LA wants another defenseman. Do you think you could do something like Coburn and Read for say a 2nd and Tofolli - J35Bacher
id still want their #1 |

This was touched on in yesterdays thread but here is some good info from Serevallis article today r
Schenn, 23, is now tied with Wayne Simmons in points this season with 31. He is on pace for a career-high 51 points.
Last season, there were 79 players in the NHL to net more than 51 points. Only 17 of them were 23 or younger. As sore a subject as he may be, supposed superstar-in-waiting James van Riemsdyk has only once ever broken 51 points (last year). He wasn't one of those players in that 23-and-under category; he was already 24.

Not trying to crush Schenn because I do like him, but how many of those players gets to play with Jake and G on the top line and the top PP? I still think he'd be a better RW or C. |

Question for you real quick..
If i told you that I had a winger that would score 71 points this season, and I wanted to give him to your team, would you take him? |

I don't think they're looking to move any roster players with Pearson out (unless he's back now). If anything, they're probably looking to beef up their depth. Coburn could probably get you a 2nd and McKeown.
That said, they have cap constraints right now, and adding players who make over $3M per year for multiple years is probably not realistic for them. |

I think the problem with Macdonald is if he was only making say 3mil your ok with him. But since he is in the 5mil you expect more. I think he is an ok defender I just think for what he brings you can find at a cheaper price. - J35Bacher
Yep, he's a 3rd pair guy. Thats it. |

Too much $$ for them - Just5
If they moved Richards they could open up some money. There are ways to make it work. |

Was nice to see Brayden Schenn play one of his "looks like we don't have to trade him" games.
I hear you guys on the defense. Good points have been made. However I really would look at any of our defensemen to see what you could get and make the best moves possible |

Coliacovo has been the worst-looking defenseman this season, which is more or less expected. The team is having success, but I believe that's despite him as opposed to because of him. - jmatchett383
Either him or coburn have been the worst. |

At this point, the team might as well ride it out with Brayden Schenn. What do they have to lose? - johndewar
I'd only move Schenn only if it brought a true top pairing defensemen back. Obviously wouldn't be a 1 for 1 trade tho. |

We shouldn't trade MDZ. He wants to come back, he's young, and we can sign him for an affordable deal as well most likely. I think he could be a very consistent guy for us in future. |

He has accrued those #s despite the fact that he only has 2 goals in the last 21 games. When/if he finds consistency, hell be a monster. |

I think everyone should be available, but only for a good return. If MDZ can bring you a good pick and/or prospect (high 2nd rounder or B+/A- prospect), you have to consider it. |

Your probably right.
I was looking at teams where they might need a top 4 dman for the playoffs and depth forward. You might be able to extract more inregards to higher pick and prospect. Coburn on a team like LA would fit well. he doesn't have to be the man. |

i agree on getting a return, but this may be a chance to sign a good quality consistent young defensemen for a favorable contract. And when you look at our d corps i think thats rare. His confident play really helps create chances and opens up the ice for the forwards more |

Exactly. He is overpaid for a generic 2nd pair dman, and honestly, on a top contender, he's really a 3rd pair guy.

No cost. None.
Here's the funny thing about JvR. He was picked #2 overall, and because of that he was labeled as a future "superstar".
People were pissed that he wanted to stay in college.
People were pissed that he wasnt a point per game player over his Flyers career.
People were pissed that he couldnt be consistent as a young player.
Typical Philly.. At 25, JvR is in the midst of a very good offensive season.. Hell, likely to be in the top 25 in points this season. He may not be a "superstar" but he is a legitimate top line winger. |
