I hear yah. I would've started 2 years ago, but still not too late to get a nice influx of young talent. Hexy did a good job getting Del Zotto, Shultz and even to some degree Cocoa puffs to help in the short term.

That sounds about right. I expect him to have a lot of rust though and possibly only get us a 3rd if he struggles. I'd still be trading him either way...

Depends on who else you need to sign over the summer. There's 10-12 teams using LTIR this season, some have FAs to re-sign. Adding $4.5mm for next season might be unworkable.
