The way he had been playing, Coburn deserved to sit just as much as any other player several times this year. Not saying he should have been out for 6 games, but 1-2 games were warranted, to me. Do you disagree?

Like I said previously, Berube has scratched different players for different reasons. One factor that comes into play, is whether the coach feels he has an adequate replacement for the player. My guess is that Berube feels that Coburn is his best defenseman, so he's not going to be willing to scratch Coburn, and I agree with that. Even though Coburn's play has been up and down, and not undeserving. I don't see it as favoritism.

Coburn's status and situation with the team in terms of importance is no different from RJ Umberger and Matt Read. I'm not a fan of Berube's current body of work but there are a few guys who should be scratched that haven't been and it's probably because the Coach feels he can't afford to scratch them.

At the time he had players that could adequately play in his place. Another factor is what scratching a player will accomplish. There's a purpose behind it rather then just scratching a player just because he's made some mistakes. With some players, scratching them isn't going to accomplish anything. Such is the case with Coburn. Just have to let him play through it. Same with Read and Umberger.

I like Luke Schenn but Grossmann is a better player right now and they play a similar style. It also helps that Nick Schultz is playing well. In Del Zotto's case, Mark Streit is a better version of him most nights, which also doesn't make Del Zotto's place safe. The players you might consider unique are Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Mason, Couturier, Read, Umberger, Coburn, Streit and Grossmann. There are certain players you need to continue to play that are young, like Brayden Schenn.
