I thought we were talking about Cam Ward? - gzatron
I was merely saying that those Conn Smythe trophies Roy won are nice, but not always an indicator of exceptional play over an entire career. |

put Hasek or Roy on the Devils teams of the 90s and early 2000s and they become the Gretzky of goalies. - Marty Louganis
Tired of that reasoning, people forget who Roy played behind its not like his defense sucked at all.... |

Rangers fan degrading Brodeur... How come back-up goalies didn't steal the starting job if Brodeur was so bad? |

From 1993-94 until 2001-02, Dominik Hasek and Martin Brodeur overlapped as NHL starters. Both were considered elite.
In that time, Hasek faced 1,060 more shots than Brodeur did. Brodeur gave up 135 more goals than Hasek. |

Luongo is better than Brodeur too?
He face more shots and allowed less goals from 2000 to 2014 too. |

He was good, great, even elite. But when it's the best of the elite, he's not there. That's no slight to Uncle Daddy, as I'd still put him in my top 8-10 to ever play the position. |

Hasek had a career Save % of .922
Roy had a career Save % of .910
Brodeur was .912
Hasek won the Vezina 6 times, Brodeur 4, Roy 3
Just on that alone it's not close. |

Good for Hasek, how many stanley cup as starter for Hasek? 1? |
|
|
|
Hasek hands down. Never had an all star team in front of him until his time in Detroit as still put up ridiculous numbers and stole a ridiculous amount of games. Never seen a goalie who could take over a game like he did.
To me Roy and Brodeur are pretty close. Roy had some great teams in front of him, particularly in his Colorado days. Brodeur didn't have the same calibre of teams as Roy, but may have benefited from Jersey's defensive system. |

Clearly you're just trolling, but I'll play this out because someone else who has a little more intellectual curiosity might find it helpful or valuable.
First of all, your claim is false. Luongo did face more shots, but he also surrendered more goals.
Second, you are using an unfair selection of seasons. Luongo was elite or nearly elite over pretty much the entire stretch you chose, whereas Brodeur has been more or less rubbish since 2010 or so. This significantly hurts Brodeur in the analysis.
Third, the numbers are much closer to one another than the numbers between Hasek and Brodeur. Close enough that you could argue that, even though Luongo had better raw numbers, other factors (such as Brodeur's puck handling ability, rebound control, shot suppression, and the general tendency of New Jersey statkeepers to undercount shots in general) push Brodeur over the top.
But when you compare Hasek to Brodeur straight up on the numbers, the gulf between them is so staggeringly wide that no amount of special pleading or ex-post-facto rationalizations can close the gap. Hasek just obliterates Brodeur, and really everyone in the entire save percentage era save for possibly Roy.

Roy won the stanley cup for the Habs pretty much all by himself. How come Hasek didn't win the cup until he went to Detroit? |

Tired of that reasoning, people forget who Roy played behind its not like his defense sucked at all.... - dmarsden2988
Exactly. They dismiss Brodeur because he had two HOF defensemen in Stevens and Niedermayer. But how many did Roy play with? Larry Robinson, Chris Chelios, Rob Blake, Ray Bourque... am I forgetting any? Not to mention the forwards he had in Colorado.
Roy had more Cups than Brodeur or Hasek and was far and away the best goalie in the NHL for the first half of his career
Hasek won more awards and carried a subpar Sabres team, his peak was probably better than Roy/Brodeur but shorter
Brodeur was a top 10 goalie for nearly two decades and owns every major record
You could make an argument for all three. But you cannot make the "defense bailed him out" argument against Brodeur and not Roy
