For consistency, Roy and Brodeur might have an edge. But when on his game, Hasek was the closest thing to unbeatable I've ever seen.

most talented? not entirely sure. best to watch - Hasek. every game was a highlight real. so unorthodox, and the most difficult for other goalies to copy. he did it his own way and boy he did it well.

People who are intellectually curious, read what's been written about this topic, and really dig into this debate from a statistical perspective will likely discover very quickly that the correct answer is most likely Hasek, with Roy having a more difficult but arguable case. Hockey bloggers have approached this topic from every angle imaginable (adjusted save percentage, adjusted shutouts, performance by age, performance versus backups) while making every effort to make generous common-sense adjustments (score effects, shot counting bias, effect of rebound control, puck handling -- most of which benefit Brodeur) and the support for Hasek and Roy over Brodeur is pretty much universal no matter what kind of analysis you run.

Then again, if you think numbers are all bogus, that's fine too, because honestly I don't know how any hockey fan who had a pulse in the 90s could EVER pick against the Dominator.

I don't really see this as a "Big 3," honestly. That's not really a rip on Brodeur, who is a Hall of Famer for sure, but when it comes to goalies of that generation I tend to see him as the "best of the second tier" (edging out guys like Belfour or CuJo) rather than somebody who really ranks up there with Hasek and Roy. Hasek and Roy are legitimate GOAT candidates, whereas I see Brodeur hanging around somewhere near the edge of the all-time Top 10 or Top 15.

I completely agree with your notion of MB being the "best of the second tier", with Roy and Hasek separate from the pack. But I disagree and side with Roy as being the GOAT due to his performance in Montreal as the determining factor.
